Please help with advice

Hello

My Father went for a colonoscopy almost 2 weeks ago after experiencing changes in stool and bad stomach pains.
During the colonoscopy the specialist thought it was a bit of poo in the way, but sadly it was a large malignant polyp blocking the way (his words) So colonoscopy had to stop there. I believe 8 biopsy's were taken.
A nurse told my father he would receive an appointment for a CT scan within two weeks.
After a week or so he'd heard nothing so tried to contact specialist, understandably to no avail. He also contacted his doctor to see if he could find out anything.
So, today (almost 2 weeks since colonoscopy) he had a voicemail left on his phone saying he'd got an appointment for 3 weeks time to see someone ( I don't know if it's a doctor or specialist) and that he could take someone with him. And that he'd receive a letter to confirm this. No mention of scan or anything.
My mum called me about an hour ago with all this info.
my mind is going ten to the dozen. Im Perplexed to say the least. I said to my mum a CT scan would always be done to confirm exactly what we're dealing with, also to confirm where/if it had spread.
My mum feels they're just going to be told there's nothing that can be done.
Sadly I realise we're not the only ones going through this. And if they're busy waiting times will be longer. But surely a scan to confirm everything will be needed, and surely if it was very bad news they wouldn't wait 5 weeks to tell him.
Any advice really appreciated x
