Basal cell carcinoma on face

Hello everyone , I'm 36 in a couple of weeks and a couple of days ago I saw the doctor to check out a lump in my groin and also get a mole checked on my face above my lip (in Cupid's bow) he's unsure about the lump in the groin maybe a swollen lump node but sending me for an ultrasound for it. He then checked out my mole and told me it was basal cell carcinoma type of cancer ... I'm freaking out this mole has been slowing growing for around 15 years but I never thought anything of it untill now and to be fair I only got it looked at as I was going about the lump in my groin so glad I did!
he said I will get a call from a hospital within a week and get me in to look at it deeper and removal. I'm so so scared why didn't I get it looked at years ago I'm kicking myself. Im Scared I'm going to lose half my face and also scared that it has spread due to me having this for many years already. I'm scared I'm going to end up leaving my 3 year old with out a mummy. My groin today has started aching it's like the bones are aching and now I'm freaking out about that too.
has anyone had a good outcome similar to my story and been ok xx

  • Hi, I know your scared. I had a BCC removed on my face on the 3rd March and they are really good. I have ended up with what won't be the best scar however the good news is a BCC once they remove it won't spread and doesn't come back so I'm grateful for that. I am waiting on a Biospy for a sore i had on forhead that never healed. I just thought ot was cause i kept picking the scab and that's why scar was getting bigger. It's now 3cm by 2cm and told could be a SCC or Melonoma which is freaking me out. As I'm worried about my 10 year old son. So I'm happy to chat mother to mother of you like. As is scary and even scarier in the times we in. However the good news is a BCC once they remove it you be fine other than a scar.

  • Hello Thankyou for your reply I didn't know that information that once removed it's gone this is good to here and hopefully when they look deeper into it don't see anything more , I know I will be left with a scar which is fine as long as it's gone. Where mine is is what's worrying me it's right above my lip underneath my nose so I'm so unsure how much they can take away from that area. Do you mind me asking how long you had to wait for removal? I'm waiting on the hospital call at the moment as I only saw my gp on Thursday xx

  • They are different ways to remove it so depends. Mine was done with a eye like incision. So they remove a bit of good skin to make sure they remove all the BCC and they stitch it back up. Mine was rather fast after i had my appointment. I recieved a letter in post a few days after seeing dermatologist specialist think from time saw specialist to it being removed was 10 days. However the appointment for the dermatologist from GP was months as so hope you don't have a long wait like that.

  • Wow months , my go said I should get a call from a hospital within a week but maybe he was just saying that. My growth has been there for around 15 years maybe more but never been checked as I just never thought to I'm so silly.
this is what scares me as if it wasn't for the lump in the groin popping up I wouldn't have checked it out. So glad yours was done quickly and your ok xx

  • Hi Mummy121. Welcome to the forum.

I'm not a doctor and I have no medical qualifications.

While it's technically cancer, BCC (sometimes called rodent ulcer) is a very well-behaved cancer.  As others have said, it's incredibly unlikely to spread or recur.  I know several people who've had them removed (I learned today that one of my friends had a BCC removed last week) and all with good results.  Please try not to worry about it.

It's highly unlikely that the lymph node in your groin is related to the BCC. Lymph nodes swell naturally in response to infections, and this is probably why yours has swollen. They normally shrink back within 6 weeks, but it is possible to have a node that never shrinks and remains harmlessly swollen.  The ultrasound will tell. Again, please try not to worry about it.

  • Thankyou for your reply , it was very ressauring to me , my groin lump has been there around 6 months now couldn't get it checked sooner because of covid unfortunately x

  • Please let us know how you get on.  Your feedback helps us improve our answers for the future.  Best of luck with the scan.
