Lobular Breast Cancer/possible lymph node spread, worried

Hi everybody! I'm still relatively new to all this even though the last month has been a whirlwind. I was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer on 20th January. I've been lucky and was able to have surgery quickly- left mastectomy completed on 2nd Feb. Initially, cancer team was confident that my lymph nodes weren't affected. However, 3 radiologists reviewed my MRI and one was concerned about one lymph node- the other 2 didn't agree. A biopsy was completed and sure enough, it was positive for cancer. I feel lucky that this one doctor spotted the node as apparently it was very small. So alL lymph nodes were removed during surgery. I'm now waiting for results and I'm terrified - keep thinking that it's spread to other lymph nodes and throughout my body. Trying to be positive and think that any other lymph node issues would have been spotted by somebody on the MRI, mammogram and ultrasounds but I'm so frightened. I have 2 young children and i can't help but worry.

  • Hi something similar happened to me . I didn't have an MRI but did have ultrasound and mammogram and one doctor queried a lymph node and sure enough they found some cells so I had full node clearance. I was terrified. The histology after surgery showed these were the only cells and so few it was the same they said as having clear nodes ie a micro metastasis . The relief was huge so I know where you are. I hope it is the same for you and the fact they thought the nodes were clear is a very good sign. Be grateful they spotted it as Imwas in the end .... it is all part of the new approach which does not rely on one person making decisions. And it saves so many lives. Wishing you well am two, years down the road from surgery node clearance isn't pleasant but I am glad they did it those stray cells will be zapped for you too

  • Thank you so much for replying. Yes, I'm so thankful that one doctor spotted it, or could have caused a second surgery and a delay in further treatment. Glad to hear your results were positive and that you're doing better. xx
