Metastasised bladder cancer

In March 2019 I was diagnosed with bladder cancer and after a number of TURBT procedures I opted for bladder removal as the best way to prevent the cancer spreading.

In September 2019 I had my bladder removed and a neobladder created. It was/is a tough recovery. Checkups in March were cancelled. Following my annual check in September I found out the cancer had spread to my lungs. Devastated.

Seems my left kidney also has a problem and as a result chemotherapy is not an option at the moment. Test for standard immunotherapy have come up negative so I'm relying on a trial for the next step.

Are there other trials that might be effective?

There doesn't appear to be any treatment that changes the prognosis by more than a couple of months.

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Hornblower although I'm sorry your cancer has spread and treatment options are limited.

You can have a look for clinical trials on our website just here but if you'd like to have a quick chat with one of our cancer nurses about this you can content them on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Hopefully some of our members who are in similar situations will pop by soon to offer their support and guidance to you as well.

    Kind regards,

  • Things have moved on.

I was not suitable for any Immunotherapy treatment so I started chemo with Gemcitablin and carboplatine.

My immune system took a bit of a bashing so second cycle of chemo was posponed a week.

Then the hospital who did the radical cystectomy got involved and now the want to suspend chemo and insert a nephrostomy in my left kidney.

having gone through the tough neobladder route I am devastated that in the end I'm going to end up with a bag.

With my immune system in such poor condition I am concerned about how the hospital is going to protect me whilst there for the nephrostomy procedure.
