Frightened Prostate Cancer

Have been losing weight over two months, this has now progressed from all over joint pain to general pain in my arms, legs and thighs, I have had a CT scan of chest stomach and pelvis that was negative but was told this does not look at the prostate.

When I pass urine it is not very fast and occasionally I find that my trousers are a little wet when I think I have finished, my left arm from my elbow to shoulder feels numb as does the bottom of my face on the left hand as does my neck. Previously I have had pins and needles in my feet/leg and occasionally my feet feel wet when they are dry. I have a psa prostate test next week and dreading hearing bad news and my pain in my limbs may be secondary cancer. I am very frightened and not sure what to do, I know that this can be very painful and could end up with fractured/broken bones.

  • Hi Ct2.  I think I've replied to a couple of your earlier posts.  You didn't answer my question about whether or not fibromyalgia has been eliminated, or if it's even been mentioned to you.

I think many men from their 50s onwards suffer from increased difficulty of urination and wet pants from time to time, but not due to cancer.  The prostate tends to swell naturally as we get older, and it causes these embarrassing symptoms.  It's called BPH or Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, and it doesn't mean you've got cancer.

I see you're having a PSA test next week.  That is wise, but until the result comes in, I don't think there's much more we can do to help you. You will continue to be in that awful situation most of us have faced: waiting for more results to come through.  Please post the result when you have it, and we'll be here to help you from that point.

Meanwhile, I have found this short video very helpful for giving a quick burst of calmness when things get on top of you: "How to Meditate in a Moment"

  • Hi yes I have been to see two private rheumatologist and both have eliminated any auto immune conditions by bloods and also x rays am also being tested for celiac. Previously it was just my joints but now the pain is in the actual arm, thighs and buttock not always constant.

  • Hi Ct2.  Fibromyalgia isn't an auto-immune disease; however, I'm sure your rheumatologists would have recognised it if it had been there, so cross it off the list.

Let us know your PSA result when it comes through.
