Zoladex and tamoxifen

Hi everyone.
I'm new to the forum. Had a therapeutic mammoplasty 5 weeks ago. I started zoladex and tamoxifen yesterday.
I have (had!) estrogen, progesterone pos her2 neg invasive lobular with one axilla lymph node. Clear node above removed and good surgical margins.Starting radiotherapy soon. Most of the time I'm positive but I'm scared a lot of the time. Scared of side effects. Scared of everything.

  • Hi JenNem,

I'm just popping by to tell you I was in exactly the same situation as you last year. The only difference was that I am post menopausal so no Zolodex, and I had a mastectomy, from choice.

I was really worried about the side effects of the hormone therapy and didn't start it until a couple of months after I was supposed to, and to my amazement, apart from a bit of nausea at the very beginning and the odd hot flush and a few aches and pains, I've been fine.

I started a thread on here "Hello from a new member of the family" last September, and through it, I met two people who were diagnosed just before me and we have kept up a correspondence since then with one or two other people dropping by occasionally. If you feel like a read, take a look and you will see how we are all doing fine nearly a year down the line.  You might also have a smile or two as we have all kept our sense of humour. I have had the least amount of treatment of the three of us, so you will get an idea of how radiotherapy was from the other ladies as I didn't need it.

Good luck, I'm sure you will be fine!

  • Hello all

just thought I'd give you all a quick update and check in and see how you all are?

I've started the zoladex and am 5 weeks into tamoxifen. Due to change to letrozole in 3 weeks.
move had RT which seemed fine but the last week the tiredness has hit me hard. Luckily I have some leave from work who's week but I am considering taking a couple of weeks off sick ( I've only had two weeks off so far in total).

I have received a weird badly phrased outsourced letter from the oncologist. It basically said I had no positive cancer. I've chased this up, it was a typo apparently should have read NODE positive cancer.

    hope you are all well

    Jen
