Staying positive/passing the time

Hi

I've recently been diagnised with tonsil cancer. The tumour is quite large but still localised to tonsil and there isn't any evidence that any nodes are affected. The thing I'm struggling with the most is how to pass the time waiting for results or treatment to start so I can distract myself from obsessing about my prognosis. Creative or active any suggestions from your own experiences very welcome.

thanks

  • Hi,

Whilst waiting for appointments or recovering from surgery I took up researching my family history. It became very addictive and the information I found helped distract me for hours on end. That was 11 years ago & I'm still hooked so it's been a life saver for me.

I also found that gentle exercise helped pass the time and keep me fit and distracted. Tai Chi is great for this.

A friend who has cancer taught herself photography & she now focuses on wildlife close ups - in her garden and when she takes her motorhome up to the islands of Scotland. It has saved her mental health as she was really struggling.

Good luck with whatever you choose to try & with your treatment.

  • Around this time people are giving the house a good clean out getting rid of the things that should have gone years ago., or decorating right through. Or plenty of gardening.

Plenty of exercise and things to keep you occupied really help.

Some like films and reading or painting or even crochet or something like that.

    Good luck with your treatment.
