Had my operation for Breast cancer.

Ho all , just popprd on to say i had my operation on Tuesday 16th  June  a lumpectomy and all my lymph nodes.were removed from my right arm.I did have a drain  and had low blood pressures, so i was  kept in that night, but went home the nxt day

I was scared to loik at my breast, but my surgeon said 'you will have to look at it at some point".So.i looked and was amazrd at what a fantastic job  my surgeon had done.

Im sore but im doing well at home.  Im so relieved its all been done, and hoping that i don't need any more breast tissue taken away.  The surgeon has said it looked good when she xrayed the tumour and the margin of  breast  tissue that had been cut away, but it still has to be sent to pathology laboratory to be checked , and if there are any cancer cells showing up on the edge o the f breast   tissue , i may need  another operation to remove more  breast tissue.  But im hoping its not the case. So if anyone is worried about having the same operation, it really isnt as bad as you are thinking it will be.

  • Hi, just wanted to say I'm happy to hear your surgery went well and the report from the surgeon sounds good too.

    Hope your feeling ok

    xx

Hi Sarah just seen your reply thankyou.

Yes im ok thankyiu , just pottering about the house doing what i can housework wise, its frustrating at times as cant do as muchn as i would like to. Seem to be doing ok with the set if exercises ive been given , but nxt wed have to add  the harder ones on, so will see how i get on wuth those lol, looks like a lot more stretching is involved , so its going to be  a bit more painfull at first if im. Imagining  correctly. At least the  weather is going to be wonderful  , sunny and hot, so will try to sit out in my garden for a little while each day. Hooe you're doing ok and can enjoy sone sunshine this week too. Xx

  • Hi . I had my op on the 17 June so just one day behind you x. I was also kept in overnight as was initially in quite a bit of pain. I have to go back for results on 3 July. I am doing well with the exercises but need to go onto next level on Thursday. I was the same as you about the scars and also very pleasantly surprised at how neat they are. All stitches are internal and I have a few steri strips. Xx

Hi , it's a  scary time when your first diognosed with brest cancer or any cancer to be honest. And none of us know what to expect, i think the unkown  and the scans and tests and the waiting are the hardest parts of it all.

Im glad your operation went well, and i know how scared and brave you were going through it all.

I was told  i would get a call from my surgeon  on  Monday the 29th june, to disscuss  the results of my operation, and to exolain to me what my nxt step of care should be.

As i mentioned  in my previous post we did touch on the subject of there being a possibility of me having to have to have another operation if there is cancer cells on the edge of the breast tumour or breast tissue that was taken  away.  I really do pray that this is not  the case, the thought of having to be opened up again fills me with dread.

There was mention before when i was first diognosed on the 20th May, about having to have radiotherapy Mon/Frid  and double the dose (because if covid 19, to get it done quicker and limit the  covid  19 risk facter ). Plus there was talk of being put on Letrazole, which im not looking  forward to, if im honest.

The side effects of these drugs are not great...ie bone pain, muscle pain, sickness, constipation, dioreah, fatigue, hair loss., ive been reading up on it all.  But i keep telling myself everyone's body is different and responds to things differently. So if i have to i will  give it  a try, as you never know you might not get them all or better still none  at all.

I do hope we both get some giood news  very soon.

Keep up.with the excercises  i to have more to add on  Wednesday, they look harder but hopefully we will get there , slowley and steady going forward, and i really  hope we both  continue to improve with  every  passing day. .

    Good luck with everything

Im always popping on to check how people are doing, do keep in touch on here, you can add me as a friend if you so wish, if not no worries  I'll  still be here to chat as its good for the mind and soul to speak to someone who really understands what you're actualy having to go through  and deal with. X

  • Hi, I have added you as a friend x

I am 46. went to breast clinic on 12 May and was told it was pretty certain BC. Had found a lump on 4 May. Told probably nothing to worry about by GP. Like you mamo did not show anything, the US did and they took biopsies and put a marker in. Was confirmed on 22 May it was Grade 2 invasive lobular cancer about 22 mm . Lymph nodes looked ok and mri confirmed this. Had lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy on 17 June. I will def need radiotherapy and 10 years of Tamoxifen but won't know about chemotherapy until my appointment on the 3 July.  Have been told same as you re further surgery etc xx
