My Sister's diagnosis

Hi Everyone,

I have recently been informed that my Sister has breast cancer. An MDT discussion was held this week, results or outcome not know yet.

My sister does not want to talk to me direct as she feels that she can't cope, but instead has sent me copies of the paperwork from hospital so I can figure it out. That's where I am stuck! Can anyone help me understand what my Sister is trying to tell me?

Please try to help, I'm so confused.

J

  • Hi

Suspect you've had no response as this is a big subject, there's so many different aspects to breast cancer and most people who have or have had it are generally specialists in their own areas.

I'd suggest either doing your homework on the recognised charity websites (this one as well as breastcancernow & MacMillan), not google as that can be full of absolute tosh sites!  Even better is phone one of the charity helplines and the lovely nurses will be able to help decipher the contents of the paperwork.

I found it really challenging to get to grips with abbreviations, the fact that one thing can be called several different names and that there's even lack of consistency across hospitals so would not be surprised that others were in the same boat.

    Good luck to your sister

    Sam

  • Hi Sam,

Thank you for your response, I'll do more homework !

    Thanks

  • Hi J

Does your sister have any support - partner living with her etc? Do you live locally to her?  My sister was diagnosed last year and I live abroad but was lucky to be able to get on a plane and get to her. It was all very confusing and frightening in the beginning but I found the support from the Macmillan nurses second to none. Is there another family member you can talk to who was with her at the consult?  Was she alone when she got her diagnosis? She’ll be feeling completely out of control at the moment and unable to process the info hence why she’s sent you just the paperwork. Are you able to visit her at home? Please please do get support from the Macmillan nurses as they are fantastic. Good luck and stay strong and all the best for your sis. Xx

  • Bless you for your support,

I may need to look after my 16yr old nephew, it's most likely.
