Feeling numb after diagnosis

Following a large tumour being removed from my partners colon on May 1st, he had a diagnosis last Thursday. He was told that the oncologist would call to discuss results next Thursday , however he received a call before that from a cancer care nurse regarding his wound from the op. She then proceeded to tell him that his tumour had been staged as a t4 n2 locally advanced . She could not explain really anything about it just that the oncologist would explain next week and tell him about survival rates and treatment.

we went straight on to the internet and are now seeing that he had only about 10% chance of surviving 5 years. We are in total shock. A diagnosis straight out of the blue and our minds in complete mush. A week seems a long time to wait to speak to the oncologist and the constant surging the net for answers

Thank you

  • Hi,

just as I was starting to come to terms with what was going on we had a setback yesterday. My partners wound from his resection has not healed. The docs think it's over  granulation and not an infection, however he cannot start chemo on Friday.. instead he had a face to face consultation with oncologist next Thursday and a scan on Monday. Scans that he had 5 weeks ago show no spread but I have spent the night panicking that it's spread in the meantime and the delay in the chemo means it won't get treated.

i have to start thinking positively again

  • Hi Lisa.

Sorry not writing lately had bone scan Tues. Got got injected with radiation then nurse checked me over with gigercounter to make sure she'd done it right (Thought it's a bit late if it's not), then had to wait in my car for nearly three hours all the waiting rooms were shut. Then had my scan then home. Yesterday morning bit chaos as well early shop then carers and nurse to get a blood test from bren, she couldn't do it so someone else has to come and try again..

So sorry your partner is not getting chemo on the day, hope the scar heals OK. Please keep positive you've done it before you can do it again. Noticed you were up early again.

    Keep well and keep positive.

  • Hi Billy how are you?

i hope you've had a weekend of sun and have had a little time to enjoy it. I've not been sleeping well. Really worried about my partners scan . Keep thinking they will find something else and he hasn't even been able to start chemo yet because if his infection. I'm back in the cycle of sheer panic and fear again . Thinking why is he having it do they think something may be going in or is it normal to have one before chemo.
    silly I know

and I caught a cat trying to catch my fish

    hope  you are well

    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa most times a scan is so they can check before and after see what difference there is.

Not been sleeping well either, get off fine then bren keeps shouting she wants something finally got to sleep properly about 1 o'clock then awake, 5 but at least i got some.

If your going to loose your fish I'm definitely coming over tonight definitely don't want the cats leftovers.. Imagine shallow fried with butter and parsley. Yum yum.

Please keep positive thoughts and actions, just hope he gets rid of the infection soon your both in my thoughts,            hope you haven't got any herons near you.
