Feeling numb after diagnosis

Following a large tumour being removed from my partners colon on May 1st, he had a diagnosis last Thursday. He was told that the oncologist would call to discuss results next Thursday , however he received a call before that from a cancer care nurse regarding his wound from the op. She then proceeded to tell him that his tumour had been staged as a t4 n2 locally advanced . She could not explain really anything about it just that the oncologist would explain next week and tell him about survival rates and treatment.

we went straight on to the internet and are now seeing that he had only about 10% chance of surviving 5 years. We are in total shock. A diagnosis straight out of the blue and our minds in complete mush. A week seems a long time to wait to speak to the oncologist and the constant surging the net for answers

Thank you

  • Hi Lisa.

Hopefully you'll be more relaxed now. Maybe even a sleep as sunny suggested it'll do you both good. Maybe even a nice meal, i was going to suggest fish but if your feeling better you might batter me.. Hehe.?

Good luck with your partners treatment and your relaxing more.

    Billy xx

  • Hi Lisa,

No need to go into details.

Best you and hubby can do now is just rest and recharge your emotional batteries and get both of you into the best shape possible to deal with chemo.

You do have a treatment plan and the way that plan will work best is with both of you being as relaxed as possible... try to eat well, sleep well, get some moments of joy

Instead of looking at all the permutations, focus on the plan you have and making your bodies and immune systems strong

    Calm as possible

Visualisation to good not bad places, positive mantras,

    So much love and hugs,

    Take carexx

  • Oh Billy,

For some reason the first batter I thought of wasn't fish, but pancake batter...

so I had this ridiculous image of you with a pancake on your head... made me laugh!!

perhaps Lisa will make pancakes sometime x

    or a custard pie!

  • Billy,

hope  you doing ok? Thank you for all your kind words . I'm going to post more stuff but hopefully when more focused and I've sorterd  my head out .
    I had fish for tea!!

    not gold tho!!

    Have a lovely evening

we will move forward with focus now

    did you get results today?

  • Hi Lisa,

So pleased you managed to get out for a walk.

I haven't seen any baby ducks this year. How lovely that you saw ten!

I always enjoy watching the baby ducks – and cygnets too when they arrive.

Good that hubby is getting a rest.

Pleased that you got dinner done. There really is no expectation on you to cook. Take as many shortcuts as you can over the coming weeks, but if cooking destresses then home-cooked is best and you can maybe freeze some food in advance of chemo.

Please don't rush to post things. It will bring things to the forefront of your mind and after all the emotional turmoil of the past few days allowing your mind and body to take a rest is important.

Later if it helps you process things, post whatever you feel  appropriate here or by starting a new thread.

I did check to see if my results had come through  -– thank you for asking – phoned GP who told me to call hospital who told me to call GP. Hospital didn't even ask for my hospital number. Will leave it another week at least.

You do seem much more focussed today than yesterday. As you say now you know what you are up against.

I was up early so will probably sleep early. Sleeping a bit better now. The walks do help.

Hope you too sleep better tonight!

So many good wishes and hugsxx

  • Lisa.

    No results yet,.

I'm a bit like you now waiting,. But not to bothered because i feel OK, over the years I've learnt when something is going wrong with my body. I know it's not perfect but hopefully get results soon.

    Glad your evening went well.

Keep looking after both you and hubby glad you ate something you getting there slowly don't rush.

Thinking of you, now keep positive for you both.

Hope you sleep properly for a change.

    Billy xx

  • Morning Lisa.

Hope you slept well noticed you haven't been on yet.

Hope your more relaxed today, take things easy from now on please

All the best for the future from now on.

    Billy xx
