Breast cancer

Hi everyone

my mum has been recently diagnosed with breast cancer last week she had a lumpectomy and removel of 25 lymph nodes. She went to see the consultant today and was told cancer was present in 6 of the 25 lymph nodes. She has to start chemo in 4 weeks followed by a year of herceptin treatment. They keep telling us that it's still early stage however I think it's more advanced, how can early stage be in 6 lymph nodes? She also has to have a full body ct to check it hasn't gone anywhere else. I'm absolutely heartbroken that my mum is having to go through this and I am having a hard time coming to terms with it, I guess I'm looking for some reassurance that everything is going to be ok

  • Hi

I was diagnosed July 2019 (you can read details on my bio).  I had a similar (maybe higher - I forget!) number of nodes that the BC had spread to. Mine was early stage, its just that some cancers are quicker to spread.  My cancer is invasive (IDC) - perhaps your Mother's is too?

Be reassured that the chemo, for me, shrunk the lumps and surgery removed the cancer.  As is did with me a CT scan will provide reassurance that there's no cancer lumps elsewhere.

Can't guarantee anything but I'm fine and was fine throughout treatment and hope your Mum is too.

  • Hiya

    thank you for reply.

yes mum is IDC also ER positive and Her2 positive.
The tumour in her breast was 16mm so it was only small I'm just worrying about how many lymph nodes it had spread to. She's had a lumpectomy which successfuly removerd the cancer. I'm glad she's having a ct, hopefully that will come back negative we need some good news after a *** few weeks.

I'm a bag of nerves and I'm sure mum is too but she's so positive and brave.

    glad your well
