  • Hi there,

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis and happy to chat one to one on hear if you want to friend request to disucss more openly.

I was diagnosed with tonsil cancer around 2 years ago and after treatment and recovery am absolutely fine again.

Brings its challenges but you do get throught it and there is light at the en of the tunnel.

I was informed by my consultant that this cancer has the highest rate of cure and statistically high.

I kept a blog from the get go and I have listed a link below which may help you on some of the journey ahead. Do remember we are all different and some recover quicker than others.

I hope this helps and happy to answer any questions/clarify anything for you based on my experiences.

  • Hi Ian,

I will be having 6 weeks of radiotherapy, with chemo in weeks 1 & 4 running alongside.

Next steps now are measuring/fitting of head protection which we think will be late next week.

My mood feels a tad lighter now knowing I'm on the moving as it were.
Long challenging road ahead but I'm ready to go.

I will give some updates in the coming weeks.

    Thanks in advance

    Paul

  • Hi Hazel

Thanks for information, certainly will be visiting your blog over the coming weeks.

My treatment starts within the next few weeks and I can then have the confidence to talk openly about the road ahead.

  • Hi

Treatment meeting was fine and very informative. I think the part that I'm struggling with is that word " cancer" sounds stupid but overcoming that word without wellling up is hard at moment.

Treatment is due to start within the next few weeks, obviously extremely nervous but in somd ways want  it started ASAP so I can focus on the road ahead.

i will keep you updated, in the meantime I wish you the very best of luck in your treatment & recovery.

  • Hi Paul

Wishing you all the best for your treatment.

I suffered a similar fate and prior to the radiotherapy and a few rounds of chemo had tonsillectomies and a modified neck dissection to remove the offending node. It was all a bit harsh. Quite a trial! However, and I hope this provides some help to you, I am now over a year out and recovered fine with few ill effects. Feel free to message with any queries... any time. Glad to help.
My last three check up consultations have been via telephone owing to the COVID19 precautions. Thats been ok as there is little to report and no issues for quite some time now. All the clinicians and staff here in Cambridge have been great. I hope that you too recover just as well.

I found the advice provided by all including the forum and blogs here spot on and prepared me well for the course.

If you have not found already; check out gammaraygary.wordpress.com and which I found via a thread here.

Wish you better and better and better.

  • Hey Paul

I just joined cancer chat the other day. I'm literally just a few weeks ahead of you, being diagnosed at the beginning of April 2020.

Amazingly, I'm already 3 of 30 radio treatments done this week - do feel free to contact me. We'll perhaps be sharing a similar timeline!!

    Cheers
