I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been given this diagnosis. Hopefully your appointment will provide answers to some of the questions that you have. 

It may be an idea to write down some of those questions before your appointment. You can also write down the answers and any information that you're given during the call so that you have it for reference afterwards. Don't be afraid to tell the Dr/nurse if you need them to slow down so that you can take notes. 
I'm unsure from your post if you live alone or not. If there is someone else in the house and you wanted to include them in your call then you could put the phone on loud speaker if you have that option. If they're ringing you on a phone that doesn't have that option you could always ask them to call you straight back on a mobile number if you have one.
