My mum has been diagnosed with stage 3 non-small cell lung cancer. We received a letter from the doctor confirming that my mum has T4, N2 and M0 however the doctor wrote that it's metastatic lung cancer. How can it be metastatic when it hasn't spread? My mum had tests that confirmed that it hasn't spread and the doctor said it hadn't spread. The cancer is still contained within the lung but is in the lymph nodes. I'm really confused! Why is he saying it's metastatic when it hasn't spread outside of the lung and for M (metastasis) my mum's score is 0.
