                      l am very sorry to hear of your mums problems,its all news that we dread hearing and hard to take.l am no doctor but my understanding is that lung metastases have come from another site within in the body, and travelled into the lung.l believe what the doctor is saying is that once arriving in the lung via the lymph nodes it has not spread out from it.

                                    There is a helpline that you can ring and talk to a trained nurse on this site on 0808 800 4040 and they can answer your questions in more detail,which l think would be a very good option for you.

                      l hope it is not too long before your mum has a treatment plan in place and that it is not too long before she is on the road to recovery,

                    well at least that is a little good news that it has not spread from elsewhere and contained in the lungs.Perhaps then this means the metastases have spread from the original site somewhere else in the lungs,but l am sure the helpline would be able to give you a better understanding of the diagnosis

                          l know from experience the original diagnosis is such a shock, your mind only grabs snatches of disjointed information and is a blank of any relevent questions until the following days. l hope you get those answers soon,

Hi, sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis. I think if the cancer is in nearby lymph nodes which you say is the case then they count that as "metasteses", because it has spread outside of the lungs (I'm not a doctor but it must have done to be stage 3 and in the lymph nodes I would have thought). The fact it has not spread to any organs would be why its M0. It's really confusing to get your head around but that's how I would read it, maybe someone more knowledgeable could confirm if this is how they stage it. Wishing you all the best at this very difficult time.

It is really confusing. It hasn't spread outside of the lung. It's still contained within the lung and the lymph nodes in the lung on one side. Maybe it's because it's spread to the lymph nodes.

Hi catlady, metastatic means it's in more than one place in the lung. 

I've got metastatic bone cancer, it's in spine ribs and pelvis. I was diagnosed Feb 2016. 

Also it's gone other places so classed as T3B, N1, M1B don't worry about details stay positive consontrate on getting better.

I'm sorry to hear about your mums diagnosis. The metastatic bit is referring to the lymph nodes. Any time cancer cells break off and set up shop in lymph nodes its considered metastases. My mum had stage 3 breast cancer in 10 lymph nodes and they said they were metastatic lymph nodes. It didn't change the fact she was stage 3. Your mums lymph nodes are doing their job and keeping the cancer contained which is great. I wish her all the best xxx 

Hi sparkles your right about lymph nodes with it being in more than one it's spread which is classed as metastatic 

But at can be in different parts of the body as mine are metastatic in my bones as in more than one bone.. Hope you got good treatment and best wishes for the future..
