Oral cancer

Hello,  I have just been diagnosed with oral cancer and am waiting for further tests to establish the treatment needed.  I have been reading loads but can't seem to find the answer........my ear is very painful and I can actually feel something in it (not to the touch but sense wise).  I have also been experiencing some giddiness, not daily but at least 3 times in a week or so.  Is this common with oral cancer and if so why?  Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.

  • Hey Chills

I am in the exact same boat as you . Cancer is on the base of my tongue only seen in an MRI I don't know any staging yet but my lymph is swollen so I am having a biopsy & CT scan . Oncologist said I wouldn't have surgery ( not sure why I should have asked ) and will be treated with Radio and chemo .
I also have a sore ear not to touch but a horrible nagging pain but in the other side of me head .  .. I'm thinking its stress . It's an awful time I will send you a friend request .
    hugs Ginny x x x

  • Thanks Ginny,  so sorry to hear your news.  I think it's the not knowing that makes it worse.  Please let me know how you get on.  If i find anything out regarding why the pain is in the ear I will let you know! I'm waiting for a CT scan and MRI then see the consultant on the 16th to put everything together.  Good luck, Kate xx

  • I will Kate ... I will also ask about the ear . I go next week . I hate all this . My husband had vocal chords cancer this time last year ! I can't believe this is happening again .  Where is your cancer ? X x. Hugs Ginny x

  • Hello Ginny,  oh my goodness, how awful for you to be going through it all again.  I hope your husband is ok.  I did some research last night and have found something called TMJ, you may want to google it.  I don't know how relevant it will be for your case but some of the symtons certainly match my ear pain.  I had a biopsy on my tongue which showed cancerous cells.  Consultant needs to know if it has spread hence the mri and CT scan. I've got my CT scan booked for Saturday.

When is your appointment? Please do let me kow how you get on.  Sending lots of best wishes and positivity your way.  Kate xx

  • Morning Kate

so yours is on your tongue too ? Kate my ear pain and the pain same side back of my head started when the consultant told me I had dysplasia ( we know now it's actually cancer ) . As a precaution he sent me for an MRI and while waiting for that result these symptoms started . I think it's stress related as it doesn't keep me awake at night but is there all day . And it's on the opposite side to my cancer . I find this ear pain awful and the pain behind  my head feels like someone pressing on a nerve . I have my dental exam next week and biopsy's of my lymph nodes .
my husband is fine he had radio no chemo , he lost over a stone in weight and coughs a little and some food is tasteless but he is in remission now . He was stage 1 , oncologist has already said mine will be higher guessing she could see on the MRI .

Anyway I am on my way to Devon to spent the weekend with my old lovely school friends of 40 years , I had to cancel last year because of Chris  and really think it will do me some good .

I hope that you are ok Kate well as OK as can be .

    hugs Ginny x

  • Hi this is Hazel I am now 19 months post radiotherapy for tonsil cancer with several affected lymph nodes. Can’t help with the ear problem or giddiness but I do have a blog where I detail my experiences with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. There are various questions to ask  is the cancer h p v positive? Also after your mri plaunct scans what’s the tumour status is I was T2N2NM which meant tumour side between 2-4 cm n 2 2 lymph node s and no no metastasis.plus h p v 16+ which does have an effect on the treatment plan

    Blog is www.radioactiveraz.wordpress.com
