Good & Bad

Hi all,

I can't remember last time I was on here.  My results were positive for breast cancer and I start chemo on Friday.  Obvs that's bad.

The good, it can be treated.  I was at hospital today getting some tests, and having some time popped into some of the support services; they were fantastic but could feel myself panicking a little.  Also tried on some wigs, guy helping me was amazing, so much knowledge

I'm off to make some lentil soup to freeze for next week and perhaps a healthy chicken meal.  Any hints on the type of food you found best during / after chemo ?

Kindest wishes to all x

  • Hi CH

I found taste buds deserted me and needed strongly tasting food so that I could actually taste & enjoy it. I cooked some hot chilli and Bombay potatoes (extra hot) and like you did on an industrial scale & froze for when needed.

Also made soup (butternut & parsnip) but again added in some extra chilli powder!

In terms of chemo the worst was not being able to eat delicious blue cheese, I did however substitute vegan Parmesan for the "real" thing which wasn't too bad at all.

Am now 2 months post chemo and have found that taste buds have pretty much returned, its a gradual thing, and again enjoy some of the blander foods that I enjoyed pre chemo.  I lost my taste for alcohol during treatment but am saving the re-introduction of that for a special occasion (don't want to miss an opportunity to be carried home).

Hope your cooking does the trick!

    Sam

  • Thanks Sam.

I thought I'd need to stick to blender foods so glad for advice.  At moment finding little and often working for me.

    Sending kindest thoughts
