Surgery day is here

Well here i am packing the last few things and off to the hospital for my lumpectomy!  Feeling ok, a little nervous, and just can't wait to see my kids (they stayed with relatives last night due to my early start).  My kids don't know anything's wrong yet, so I'll be telling them in very high level terms afterwards.

Feeling a little apprehensive about the general anaesthetic but otherwise ready to get on with this.  And wishing I'd put the lights on the Christmas tree already, coz I'm going to have to let DH do it now!

See you afterwards!

  • Morning Embob

I just want to wish you well for your lumpectomy today.  I had mine on 1st October and it does take a little while to recover so make sure you do all you are told to do and never forget to do your exercises!!!

I'm sure the Christmas lights will be absolutely perfect but don' stretch to change them!!!!

Good luck and I hope the results after the operation are positive.

  • Best wishes I'm sure all will go well.  I had mine four or so weeks ago and was back at work after two weeks, didn't need painkillers either.  Hoping the same for you.  Don't overdo things though, just follow Drs orders re the exercises   Christmas lights will definitely have to wait a little bit.  I start radiotherapy next week Thursday

  • Hi I expect by now you are home and all over with. Just make sure you rest and listen to your body. If your tired then sleep if your in pain take the tablets you been given don’t think because it feels ok one hour the next hour will be the same. Just watch how many you take though. If people offer to help let them!!

please let us know how you got on xx

  • Thanks everyone. I was in and out the same day, feeling pretty good! Finding it hard to rest and not get on doing jobs!

I had quite a lot of bleeding from the wound site so I rang the surgical ward, who told me to change the dressing. I was so worried about getting the wound infected or there being a problem that i couldnt see, so i left it til this morning and went back to the breast clinic to get the dressing changed. Nurse said there had been a haematoma at the site of the surgery and to keep an eye on it.

I'm surprised that i didn't get any antibiotics, i just expected that there would be some!

Been signed off work for 2 weeks, which is great!

    Thank you for asking :-)

  • Great news.  Yes keep an eye on the wound site, but hopefully that will heal up quickly.  It's a really weird operation hardly any pain etc

Best wishes for a speedy recovery

  • I was told two weeks at pre op but after surgery was  told three weeks! Just be careful not to lift anything heavy for a few weeks. Glad you are ok x

  • Hi Embop

Glad you got out the same day and home to your children.  Wishing you a speedy recovery but please don't overdo it.

Fingers crossed the results are positive for you.
