48, never smoked & have lung cancer

I was diagnosed this week with lung cancer and was told it’s early stage (T2N1M0). Awaiting results of a brain MRI scan that I had this morning (this is apparently done as a precaution?!) and I have a groin biopsy this week too as I was told this week the PET scan showed activity there as well as the lung (not sure why this wasn’t mentioned before when I had the lung biopsy). I’m due to see a surgeon on Friday to discuss surgery (Lobectomy) assuming no issues with MRI or groin biopsy.  The consultant seemed to think the surgery would remove it and that I’m lucky it’s been caught early (I’d had no symptoms and the lesion was picked up on a CT angiogram early October).

I’m trying to be as positive as I can but at 48 years old and having never smoked I feel very unlucky and scared about the future.

Has anyone been in a similar situation/have any words of advice?

  • Hi I hope the surgery goes well for you , i was in a simaler situation and it aint easy to understand why it happens to you...the next few years are going to be a struggle but it does get better just take it day by day and be thankful that it has been diagnosed early like mine was ,

You have a future ,,this diagnosis is not the end, you may never break any records in running a marathon in the future but it will get better and life does return to so called normal , the worry never goes as with anybody diagnosed with cancer but you will learn to live with it..I wish you well and stay positive , hard at times i know but you can do it.

  • Hi Ruth, no need to thank me if you need to vent your thoughts then here is the place,, sometimes its helps to speak to people who are going through the same , we are here if you need us ,it is a huge emotional roller coaster but time is a great healer,

As for me i am doing good ,as i mentioned things are more or less back to normal , had a few issues with work and such but all in all life is good and you learn to appreciate the simplest things in life and it helps with doing this , if that makes sense???

i really wish you well and i know people say stay strong , but you really need to, all will be good.
