Found out 19/11/19 that I had lung cancer. Female, aged 48, never smoked. No symptoms and lesion was initially picked up (luckily) by chance in October on a scan for something else. Was told the risk of it being cancer was low, but after CT, PET and then biopsy it was confirmed.
10/12/19 - had VATS Lobectomy to remove lower left lobe of lung.
3/1/20 - post surgery appt advised no spread to nodes but size of tumour was bigger than initially thought from scans (4.8cm) so ‘belt & braces’ chemo offered. Stage 2a confirmed. T2bN0M0.
20/1/20 - met oncologist. He explained there was only a 1-2% benefit of adjuvant chemo but I decided to go for it and hopefully I can tolerate it with minimal side effects.
29/1/20 - started adjuvant chemotherapy (Cisplatin and Vinorelbine).
10/2/20 - admitted to hospital with a temp of 38 degrees and neutropenia (neutrophils at zero)
17/2/20 - oncologist suggested switching from Cisplatin to lower dose Carboplatin due to the side effects I was experiencing.
21/2/20 - hair loss started, despite being told I wouldn’t lose it...
5/3/20 - had 80% dose of Carboplatin and Gemcitabine as recommended by oncologist, no day 8 with this cycle initially to see how my body copes.
7/3/20 - wore my wig outside for first time, felt ok...
23/3/20 - had my pre cycle 3 appt with oncologist by phone due to Coronavirus. He advised I stop chemo as the risks from CV19 outweighed the benefits. Hopefully the chemo I’ve had has zapped any rogue cells post op.
