Tonsil cancer

Hi everyone, just found this site, and I couldn't believe how many people has this.

i went to my doctors 4 weeks ago for my diabetic check up, and I had felt a small lump in my throat about a week previous, I asked her if she could have a quick look, on doing this she sai she couldn't see anything and would refer me to the ENT, the following morning I had a call from the ENT asking me to go in, this I did, he inspected my throat, put a camera up my nose, then basically told me he suspected cancer on one tonsil, a week later I was in surgery to remove my tonsil, but the surgeon explained the when he lo oks in my throat, if he don't see anything untoward s he would remove them both, when I came round after surgery I was told he had only removed one tonsil, THE GOOD ONE, and he had taken biopsy from the bad one ,and surrounding area,s I've within a week I have to go in for mri scan, Tuesday I have to go for an jelly scan, and Thursday I have to have a ct scan, then I will get the final result, my wife did some research on google, and it said it is caused by a sexually transmitted disease, now she won't come near me.

thank you sorry it was a bit long, I will keep you updated nex week.

  • My heart goes out to you, when they cut my one tonsil out the pain was horrendous for the first 4 days, I was taking 30 tablets a day,  but now it,s been 13 day, I'm eating and drinking normally now, not looking forward to the other one coming out, well I certainly won't be getting a prize for being the bravest,

im so sorry your having to go through this, and please if you ever want to talk I'm here, but I will definitely let you know how I get on Wednesday x

  • All that matters is that you get through it, with a positive outcome. If you have to take 100 tablets take them.

You are going to get to the end of this, it’s a small period of time and all being well you will come out the other side intact.

Beat this cancer I know you can do it!!!!

  • I really appreciate your support thank I can see where your husband get his strength from x

  • HimTaff this is Hazel I a must 14 month post radiotherapy for tonsil cancer with affected lymph nodes also had 16 + h p v  type and married for 42 years I have a log detailing my experiences if yiu and your wife wwantbtomeeas it ive links to lot so if other sites where the h p v link is explained .. its quite feasible 84% of us are carrying the h p v virus  and  in my case took a nano second for the virus to attach g to my tonsil during a bout if flu . The hubby and I joke about it didn’t he give it to me ? Did I give it to him who gave it back to me who knows all we know neither if us have been unfaithful and the stigma your wife is feeling isn’t good for either if you. .

    blog is www.radioactiveraz.wordpress.com

if yiu want to send me a friend request will explain further

in the meanwhile welcome to the club no one really wants to join  but if I can go through treatment anyone can

  • Hi Hazel,

thank you for you welcoming post,  we had no idea this could be transmitted through a flu virus,, wow that's an eye opener, would really appreciate any links you could send me, and I will definitely be looking at your blog.

    thank you ever so much

    Del x

  • Hi Del  no problem anytime you only need to post a question and someone will always help ,the trigger that dropped my immune system was the flu virus that allowed the pesky h p v 16+ virus to attach its self to a weak spot in my case right tonsil which I had problems with back in 2003 n then wham it found   Its as a weak spot ,

h p v 16+ is one of the fastest in terms of numbers if people it’s affecting over the last 10 years  girls in U.K. have been vaccinated for last 13 years or so and from this September a programme has been rolled out in U.K. to start vaccines for teenage boys .somhopefully in 40 years it will be eradicated. The only   good point in this type of cancer as my oncologist said (3 words I never thought I would utter lol) was keep off d r google the info is far from correct and scary stick to recognised site like cancer U.K. Macmillan or people who can proof they’ve had it ie my blog and it’s gory pictures.plus the success rate for cure is very high ,but he warned me the treatment was brutal but necessary. He said if he was ever to get cancer uts the one he would prefer because if the success rate so take heart from that .

re h p v like I said 84% of world population has it most of us never know we’ve had it our body gets rid of it .Oral, sex is the most common way of getting it so joking aside hubby ain’t getting any more birthdays presents !!!!!!! It’s surprising how I cannot talk openly to strangers about it as well  !!!!! Some of us could barber the h p v virus for decades and just pass it harmlessly to our other half’s then they pass it back think of pass the parcel but if it’s life in your system and immune system gets compromised in it pops  apart from me getting the flu oncologist also remarked that it was often found in us oldies I was 62 who had started to get fit later in life therefore our immune systems apparently react to stuff

anynquestions ask hope blog didn’t blow your mind

  • Hey how you doing?

All set for tomorrow? Remember to write a list of questions before you go, as the moment you get in that room your head will be bamboozled and then all the things you wanted to ask go out of the window! Trust me i’ve been there, my husband’s first language is not English, so I had to translate what the doctor told us into English that he was able to understand, my first language is English and it was difficult enough for me!!

I hope everything goes ok tomorrow and don’t forget to update me as to what they tell you, good luck x
