Hi, have recently been diagnosed, following on from my first bowel screening test (which I wish I'd never done now), with a cancer low in the rectum with sphincter involvement.
Consultant said surgery would involve removing sphincter as well and consequently a stoma which is the last thing I want, he did ask if I'd have radiotherapy, probably, and is taking some more biopsies under general anaesthetic next week.
It doesn't help that nurses keep telling me about their 80 year old grandmothers who cope with a bag, maybe if I was 80 I wouldn't be so bothered but I've got 20 years till then!
Just wondered if anyone else been in similar position?
Thanks
