First chemo done

So I had my first chemo session on Friday and what an ordeal that was. Apparently a delay with the production accompanied by the fact I had to be be given it slowly meant I was in hospital for a grand total of 13 hours!

The actual chemo itself was fine I felt no effects, came home ordered a pizza thought i would be ok until the next one.

Wasnt I wrong. Not been to bad though just mostly nausea. I was not however prepared to feel like I’d had every last bit of moisture removed from my mouth. Still feeling a bit peaky 4 days later but definitely getting there. Hope everyone else is well just thought I’d post an update. Xx

  • Hi there ...

Well done, you've started and bit the bullet... it's a tuff road .. but look at the light at the end of the tunnel ..  and take one day at a time ...

So hold on in there ... Chrissie x

  • Hello Lila

The chemotherapy I’m on they suggested little and often food wise with plenty of fluids, I find grapes, watermelon, skips or wotsits (they dissolve in your mouth) Ice lolly are my go to foods after chemotherapy then by end of week two I can eat normal meals again x

i hope above help and if need be ask for a dietitian to help u plan foods that are beneficial to you and recovery

Chemotherapy is a learning curve for the first couple of treatments working out what’s best for your body x

    Postive thoughts to you xx

  • hey

high five for getting through the first one.  I am about to have my 6th and last chemo session next week. My taste buds have gone after each cycle and it drives me bonkers as I love my food.  I have found cold fizzy drinks like elderflower or lemon help, and ice cream and fizzy sweets like lemon sherbets and haribos.

mention the nausea to your nurse and they may be able to adjust your meds to help with it.

    Keep going.

  • I just had my first chemo yesterday and I like you had a very long wait for same reasons. It felt surreal. Couldn't believe it was happening to me. How did I get here?? I wanted to run! So far so good today. Will see what happens next. Good luck with the treatment keep us posted x

  • Ha!  My first EC was the day before yours, and like you I also had a pizza (my favourite naughty food)...in hindsight quite a bad idea eh?

Since then I've been eating like a top dietician and the thought of pizza & alcohol (c80% of my pre chemo diet) is bleugghhh!

Had some ups & downs re constipation but all together not half as bad as some get.  Interestingly broke out in some quality spots yesterday (what is that all about) and skin around T zone is vvv sensitive...it goes with the rest of my new & interesting look (not getting dressed/showered till lunch, amazing bed hair etc.)

    Welcome!
