Nodules on Spleen

Hi,

I have been on a journey of discovery in the last 10 weeks or so.

I had some blood when pooing so had a colonoscopy.  Polyps removed nothing to worry about.

A week later and it turned out one of the polyps was cancerous but it had been caught early, just need to have a sigmoidoscopy.  I thought this was to just remove a bit more to give a greater margin around the cancer but whilst I was having it, the consultant told me he was tatooing the spot so the surgeon could see what part to remove, but only if that was needed!

A few weeks later and the consultant tells me that it could have spread so I need a bowel resection, major surgery from something that was supposed to be ok was a big shock.  I also needed to have a CT scan to see if they could find any more.

Results of the scan now show that there are nodules on my spleen.  The radiologist is not worried and thinks they are benign and not a problem but now I need a MRI to confirm.

Nothing has been simple so far so what if this isn't?  Should I be worried that this is more cancer?  My op is scheduled for Sept 24th (and the prospect of that scares the hell out of me) so presumably all this will unravel during that time but I am pretty worried.

  • Hello PeteSid,

What a journey of discovery you've been through indeed! It sounds as if the past 10 weeks has been a real rollercoaster of emotions.

It's natural that you're feeling concerned about these nodules, especially given that you've been told not to worry on a few occasions only to later be told that more tests and now surgery are needed. I hope that you don't have to wait too long for the MRI and the results.

Whilst it's natural to worry, and easy for me to say, try to keep positive in the next few weeks before your surgery. Worrying won't change the results of the MRI but it will make those weeks more difficult and likely leave you feeling as though time is creeping by slowly.

If you think that talking everything through would help then please give our team of nurses a call. Sometimes it can be beneficial to get things off your chest and I know they'd be happy to chat with you. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Keep in touch PeteSid.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks Jenn, I am pretty positive about things, I would like the MRI booked and see the result, mthen just the Op outcome to think about.
