Newly diagnosed mixed breast cancer

Hello everyone, I have recently join a club no one wants to join. I found breast lump 2 weeks after a clear routine mammogram. The lump was found to be a papilloma with atypical cells, following a lumpectomy this was upgraded to grade 1 invasive ductal carcinoma but no clear margin so had a second lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. I have been completely flooded to be told I have mixed lobular and ductal carcinoma with 1 positive lymph node. I now have to have a 3rd lumpectomy which will remove the nipple. I made a big mistake in googling and now feel worse for it. I have been told I need radiotherapy but unsure about chemotherapy until after 3rd op. Just wondering if any of you ladies have had a similar experience and have any words of wisdom.

  • Hello love,

its all pretty much a whirlwind isn't it? I had a grade 2 invasive mucinous ductal carcinoma......done the chemotherapy just finished the rads now its hormones and herceptin.....hold on to the fact yours is grade 1.... once the path results are in you will know more about your treatment, it's not uncommon to have a cocktail of various cancer cells in one lump. Now, you simply must stop consulting dr google, he had me arranging my own funeral!! Trust your care team.....and keep remembering.....grade 1...means slow growing.....There is absolutely no reason why you can't get this treated and go to live a full life....I know I will.....xxxx

  • Thank you Marlyn, it is so easy to get drawn into Google and you are right funeral plans going through my head. It sounds like you have a positive outlook and I wish you well with the next stage of your treatment xxx

  • Hi jan63

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Please do take Marlyn's advice and stay away from Google. It's the first place I consult for anything but when I received my diagnosis just over two weeks ago I stopped myself as the few things I skipped over were not nice and scared the poop out of me!

The I found this forum and Macmillan both have been a huge support to me in the dreaded waiting period.

Had my appointment with the Oncologist on Friday where I received my treatment plan and results from scans and I feel a whole lot better now I know what's happening.

Stay positive - you can beat this xx
