Hi all
i was diagnosed with stage 1 ductal hormonal breast cancer on 14th June and have a lumpectomy on 9th July any advice on what to expect please?
Hi,
i had a lumpectomy and SNB (sentinel node biopsy) 2 weeks ago.The operation was not as bad as I thought it would be. The scar on my breast is quite big as they don’t do keyhole for this. My breast was sore but not too painful. The SNB, lymph node removal under the armpit was a funny stinging type pain. I was not in too much pain, more a general soreness.
Everyone is different. I was told to wear a bra day and night for at least 14 days. I was given some simple excercises to do to keep movement in my arm/shoulder. I am a total wimp where pain is concerned and I coped.
I have big breasts so for me there isn’t too much difference after.
hope this helps, feel free to ask any questions.
Hope it goes well. The waiting is the worst
Thanks :) how long did you need to take off work? Did you feel sick after from the anesthesia?
Hi, I had a lumpectomy in January, it was by far the easiest part of my treatments. In at 7.30am home by 5 pm having my dinner.
I suffer sickness with general anaesthetic, but I explained this to them and they gave me something extra and I was fine...
i wAs back in work a couple of days after op, but my job is non physical so I was fine....what do you do? Xx
I dont work. No, anaesthetics dont make me sick so i was fine.
What other treatment have you had to have? I had a real phobia of feeling and being sick so I’ll ask them to give me something!
I work in an office so it’s not strenuous just not sure about using a pc all day everyday when it’s my right the op is on.
I needed chemo and rads and am on herceptin.....so you see surgery was a doddle!
Do explain to them your phobia, have you had a G A before? It's really very straight forward....like magic!
Are they removing any lymph nodes? I had one node removed, I couldn't carry shopping bags or do heavy housework for a few days but I was amazed at how easy it all was.....I did try to milk it but hubby got wise....lol!! Xxx
They’ve said I’ll probably have radiotherapy and take tablets for the next 5-10 years, I assume that’s the hormone replacement no talk of chemo yet which is a relief to me the thought scares me.
ive had 2 epidurals but not a full general, I felt very sick after my epidural ️
I think they said they were putting dye in and taking a biopsy of my lymph nodes but that the ultrasound didn’t show anything there.
Yes, all being well your nice and early.....rads is a walk in the park compared to chemo although I do have a nasty burn under my boob....
will you be on tamoxifen? I'm post menopausal so on anastrozole.....the dye thing is easy....our NHS is simply marvellous.....they will take care of you xx
let us know how youget on?
