Three separate cancers

Hi, I am a 68 year old otherwise very healthy man. Late last year I had a melanoma successfully removed from my back along with 2 lymph nodes and am told the cancer has not spread. Subsequent scans have revealed tumours in my colon, one in the ascending and one in the descending and I am waiting to have my colon removed. The scans also picked up a tumour in my left kidney and that will be removed during the colon operation. I have been told that the 3 cancers are not related. Has anyone been through an operation to have both the colon and a kidney removed who could share their experience with me as I am scared of what is ahead of me.

  • Hi Gizmo17

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear the diagnosis that has brought you here. It's totally understandable that you're feeling as you are.

I've had a good search through the forum and haven't been able to find another member who has had surgery to remove colon and kidney. I do know that both [@Samsonmc]‍ and [@Riggers]‍ have had a kidney removed and you can read a little bit about their experiences here. [@86Mal86]‍ has had surgery for colon cancer. Hopefully as I've tagged these lovely folk into your reply here they'll be able to pop along and share their experiences with you.

Given your fairly unique set of circumstances I wondered if you might find it helpful to have a chat with one of our team of nurses for some support. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that all goes smoothly for you. Keep in touch when you feel able to and let us know how you are getting on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello gizmo17

Apoogies for a late response but recently I`m not able to login here every day...

I have had Right Hemicolectony in June 2018. I haven`t been given a bag so that was positive :)

Now - nearly year after I can tell that recovery wasn`t that bad and I have recovered fairly quickly - now I`m on 9km walk + 2km run every day and increasing this.

Sometimes I still have to kind of run to the toilet lol but these are mornings normally.

My cut was full abdominal one - some of the surgeries they are able to do via keyholes.

I`m really sorry for what are you going through right now but remember staying positive is a key! There will be some hard times but I do believe they will pass quickly :)

    Wish you all the best!

Please feel free to chat if you`d have some more questions :) Always happy to help!
