Fibroadenoma turned out to be cancer?

Just had a biopsy which was really painful as I have breast implants and they struggled to get it. They were confident it’s just a fibroadenoma but I’m still stressing. Has anyone been told it’s just a fibroadenoma and it turned out to be malignant?

  • Just thought I'd quickly reply and follow this thread.

I have had something similar where i found a lump on my right breast about 3 weeks ago (not visible but easily felt) had my appointment at the breast clinic on the 30th where after a the surgeon did an ultrasound said he thinks it may be fibroadenoma but because od my age (28) he wanted to do a biopsy to confirn. He told me i would get a call for results on Friday (today) however the consultant said afterwards i would hear by call or letter in 7-10 days. I am still yet to hear anything.

It is very hard not to worry, i am glad to hear for those who have had a positive benign result and hope for those unlucky ones treatment is going well x

  • Hello

I hope everyone is well. I was just wondering if anyone had any updates from the end of last year?

I found a lump early December but my GP made me wait until I had my period to see if it was just hormonal. It did not change so I was at the breast clinic last week and also had a biopsy. Anxiously waiting on my results now. All this waiting is so hard and if I'm honest Im tired of pretending to be positive to make others feel better.

    Hope everyone is well!

  • Hi!

may I ask how old you are? I found a lump early December too, they told me not to worry as I'm only 24 turning 25 but it doesn't stop you worrying! I have an appointment at the breast clinic in 2 weeks where I will get a scan. Do you think I will need a biopsy too?
I hope everything goes okay and the results come back as nothing to worry about, take care xx

  • Hi

No of course not, I'm 35.

To be honest I did not think anything of the lump when I 1st found it so was shocked when they wanted to do a biopsy at the scan appointment. Unfortunately only they can tell you when they do the scan if youl need a biopsy but they do it there and then and it's very quick.

Its the waiting that's the tough part! I'm sure yours will be fine too, they are so good and careful with lumps and bumps. X

  • Hi

I had the same thing a few years ago and I think they will biopsy unless they think its a cyst. Its best to think in advance they will probably biopsy as I didn't expect it and the shock was awful, I wasn't mentally prepared for it at all. The biopsy itself was just a strange feeling not really painful though. It turned out to be a fibrodemena thankfully. I really hope yours will be too, they are very common.

  • Thank you so much PJ36 and mrs hutch

I hope everything turns out okay PJ36! Try and think positive, I know it's hard but they are common and hopefully this is your case as well as mine.

    take care xxx

  • Hi,

My results came back as a fibroadenoma thankfully after ultrasound and biopsy. It is a very scary wait but it is totally normal and acceptable to feel nervous about it so please don't feel like you have to pretend that it isn't (easier said than done I know as I was the same).

A nurse or doctor will call you with the results and don't hesitate to ask them any questions you have about it, this was what settled my mind about it.

wishing you both all the best xx

  • Posted on this forum around a year ago after I'd had an ultrasound and core biopsy for a lump found in my right breast. I was only 18 at the time but due to family history of b cancer I requested the biopsy - came back fine as a fibroadenoma and was told No further action was needed as it was just under 2cm.

fast forward to now, had a hospital app yesterday as the lump was starting to hurt me and had felt it had increased in size a bit. Go to the appointment and have a Breast exam and am assured I won't need another core biopsy as the last one was fine, get sent for the ultrasound and the woman immediately says I need a biopsy and a 'clip' put in. I totally freak out but do the biopsy anyway which was fine I was just nervous. They tell me the fibroadenoma has Increased to 3.1 cm which is over 20% growth apparently so is now classed as a U3. It was previously a U2 which means benign but now I'm really worried because U3 is on the verge of suspicious I think. I hate the wait for the biopsy results and am basically just terrified it's cancer.

if anyone has had a similar experience I'd really appreciate response of how it went for you. As I'm only 19 I know literally no one apart from older family that have had to deal with breast lumps or anything. Thankyou xx

  • I have just been diagnosed with a benign 3.4cm fibroadenoma which was rated as a 3 too. It feels big and seemed to come/grow out of nowhere. What the nurse advised about the staging after the mammogram and ultrasound was 1 and 2 is not cancerous, 3 is a bit of a grey area (uncertain can't be sure without biopsy) and 4 and 5 more serious, so I wouldn't worry too much. I have been advised to get it removed even though non-cancerous just due to its size and I'm going for the operation pre-assessment in a weeks time, op to follow under general anestetic at my local hospital as a day patient. Please try not to worry, I hope this message helps and you hear your results soon. Fingers crossed for you Xx

  • Hi all!

I'm 25, found a lump in my left breast around December and finally got the courage to go to the GP early this month. She reassured me that it's likely a fibroadenoma due to my age and the fact that the lump is moveable. It's about 2cm and no history of breast cancer in the family.

Got my breast clinic letter a week later and had my appointment today (after re-scheduling). Both the doctor and the radiologist said they think it's a fibroadenoma however I had a biopsy (which I wasn't prepared for - ended up crying in the bathroom!)

Quite worried now as I was certain if it was a fibroadenoma it wouldn't need a biopsy - and everything seems to be moving so quickly. Should hear back in the next few weeks but just trying not to psyche myself out. Fingers crossed it's good news for all of us waiting
