Endometrial cancer

Hello everyone - world turned upside down with a diagnosis of cancer in womb yesterday. Only went to see GP a week ago about water infection and scan yesterday revealed otherwise. Op arranged in 10 days time so all happening incredibly fast and I’m a bit she’ll shocked and I know I haven’t listened properly to GP etc about what is going to happen so I’m consulting Dr Google which is a stupid thing to do. If anyone has had endometrial cancer post menopause I would appreciate any information especially if it is known to spread. Thank you

  • Hi I'm new to this post too. I'm 54 and 2 years ago periods were messing about - went a good few months with nothing then heavy bleeding out of the blue. Referred by GP, had internal scan and biopsies, came back clear....Happy days! Everything settled down eventually and went 287 days with nothing (tracked on my Garmin app) - was out running on day 288 and felt a real dragging sensation and found I'd started bleeding. Ignored it for a few days but asked to speak to a  nurse when I booked my flu jab. She called me straight in and referred me there and then on 2week wait. Called in for internal scan and blood test on26/2 then given appt to see consultant who I saw on 2/2. He tried to do biopsy of womb in clinic...but couldn't do it (v painful) so called me in for colposcopy on 5/2 as had also spotted a lesion on my cervix. Good news as bloods normal but now waiting for results of biopsies from womb and cervix. Just not sure....should I be worried?

    Thanks for listening x

  • Before my periods stopped for 2 years my periods were really bad, irregular, heavy prolonged bleeding with lots of blood clots, my longest time bleeding was 4 months, I suffered for over 15 years, I saw different specialists over the years but was told it was due to my thyroid. I think if anything is different to your usual you should query it, it might be something and nothing but it's better to be safe, at the time my periods stopped it was a bit of a relief, I was given a hormone cream which started me bleeding again like before my periods stopped, so because I'd got no where before I did not to to see the drs, I was not aware at the time this was not normal, if not for the heart attack I still would not of gone to the drs, my cancer would of being a lot worse.

I think the blood tests they did test for was ovarian cancer, I don't believe blood tests show anything for womb cancer, I have no idea about the cervix.

I do believe from my own experience they get in touch with you a lot faster, and arrange appointments faster, the more concerned they are about test results, the longer the leave it usually means things are not too bad.

I never had an MRI only a CT, but think the use both of these to help them properly diagnose you, sometimes things are not totally clear on ultrasounds and they need better imaging to help in there diagnoses. It good they are being thorough in there investigations.

  • Thanks for your reply....the waiting is hard isn't it but it does sound like you've been through the mill.  I also have nodules on my thyroid which they have left. Still not a week ago yet since biopsies so I need to be patient!

  • Hi just had my biopsy today as I had thickening, consultant didn't say how much and I didnt ask. Due to covid the expect tge results to take 8 weeks. The only parting comment he left me with was it happens to 5 or 10 per cent of women my age and if it is cancer its very easily treatable. So I cannot get this comment out of my head that he is pre warning me. Can they see anything other than the thickness when they carried out the scan. I just have to out it to tge back of my head and wait 8 weeks.

  • Same here...was told mine was thicker than it should be but no detail. Also small cysts on ovaries they are not worried about due to normal blood tests. Patch on cervix was an extra - never missed a smear test but did have a cervical erosion about 30 years ago  Appintments have come through very quickly so far so grateful for that. Was told 2-4 weeks for results but should probably expect longer.

  • The waiting is the worse part, the not knowing, it weighs heavy on your mind, I had a 3 week wait from my biopsy results, but at the time they did not really say what they were testing for so therefore I was not really worried, that is until they rang me. I do know some areas are quicker than others with testing but do know Covid is slowing everything down, I had to wait an extra 3 months for another CT Scan.

They usually catch womb cancer early due to the bleeding issues that go with it, most people go to see their GP pretty much straight away.

I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy my ovaries and cervix were also removed, all tests afterwards ( came back within 3 weeks) say all my cancer is gone, so I do not need any other treatments, which is a great big relief, but they will keep an eye on me for next 2 years, I was told to look out for unexplained weight loss and any vaginal bleeding, any of those and I'm supposed to go see my drs. They will do a 6 week and a 6 month check, the first one will be a phone consultation, the second is an appointment.

  • Thanks for your reply its always good to share stories and experience. Think a stiff drink tonight is in order. I didnt have bloods taken. Im also based in scotland so will be interesting to see how far apart our results arrive. A lot of people on this forum post and never come back on possibly due to good news so I've convinced myself ill be in that percentage bracket that mine is cancer. I too am pleased how fast I've been seen and glad I went to the gp after 1 bleed and didn't dismiss it.im sure I will tackle it face on positively whatever it maybe just is rather know one way or the other and sooner. Im currently supporting my sister in law who was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer 3 days before Xmas and it was only picked up on mammogram she had no symptoms. She had her surgery a week ago.

Will follow your story and see what your outcome is

  • Hello - nearly 3 weeks in and no news. How are you doing?

  • Hello just added you as friend so I could message you. nope nothing from me as yet just as well as I have some stressful stuff going on right now. I had a full mot at that time so my thyroid has came back fine and they ran some other tests when I was bleeding at the GPS and they have come back fine.

  • Hi, had some great news...my biopsies came back clear.  I have to have another colposcopy booked for the 30th March to remove a lesion but no nasty cells.  I was given the option to leave it but decided I wanted to get rid!  Hope you're not waiting too much longer and you get some good news too.
