Losing my only parent to Linitis Plastica??

hi

my 67yr old dad has just been diagnosed with linitis Plastica and I’m devastated. 21 years ago we lost my mum to Breast cancer

it is so hard to find any information on this disease. It’s also so hard to watch my dad not eat, day after day because he physically can’t.

does anyone have any experience with this type of cancer?

we don’t have the prognosis yet but he is due for and endoscopic ultrasound soon hopefully

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Mellieboo although I'm sorry about your dad's recent diagnosis.

We have some information about lintis plastica on our website just here but if you have any further questions then do give our cancer nurses a call. You can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I've had a quick look through the forum and found that [@Boojue]‍'s best friend and [@PollyP8221]‍/[@Chele510]‍'s mum are also contending with this diagnosis so hopefully they will share their experiences with you soon now I've mentioned them in this post.

I hope this helps Mellieboo and I wish your dad all the best on his cancer journey.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Mellie

Really sorry to hear about your dad being ill with this cancer. You will no doubt receive information as they find out more - hope it has not spread too much as it is an aggressive cancer I'm sorry to say. My closest friend was diagnosed with linitis plastica in January after admission to hospital with extreme stomach pain. She had an emergency operation which then led to the diagnosis. She was told that any treatment would be palliative. That was devastating to hear -she's 48 and didnt even know she had cancer. Since then, she's recovered well from the operation + has had 2 rounds of chemo + herceptin. From what I've read this can give folk with advanced stomach cancer a few more months .... She has lost alot of weight but can eat small portions.

We are all hopeful the chemo + herceptin will buy her more time but it's not been easy. Before starting the treatment she was doing really well and getting out lots but it's floored her for a week after each time. However she's remaining positive + is still making plans for the future as no-one knows how this will pan out.

I really hope your dad's cancer has not spread too far + he can eat again... maybe surgery will be an option for him. Let us know how things go x
