Just found out I have breast cancer

Hi all,

well today has been a shock to the system to say the least. Been having breast ache for a number of weeks so went to doctors who said she couldn’t feel anything and not to worry yet due to being breast they have to refer. So today I went with my mum ( im 38 yet still need mum) thinking worse case scenario it’s a cyst to be then scanned and had a mammogram then a biopsy in 5 areas and then went into Dr rooms and straight away knew wasn’t good as saw the McMillan nurse. I was told that I have a number of abnormal growths and 90% sure it’s cancer.. both mum and I broke down in tears but they couldn’t give me any more info until next Friday when the biopsy results come in. I am so scared and don’t know what to expect. I’m a single mum to a 5 year old and heads a shed! Any help or advice would be appreciated :-)

  • Thanks so much for your reply it's made me cry I'm an emotional wreck at the minute but really trying hard.

i am hoping with all my might that's it's something anything other then the big C. An infection would be a blessing.
but I have a terrible feeling.
i only turned 30 in November and I have a 7 year old I just can't imagine going through all of this. It's so scary I just want it to be all over with already.

i woke up with the pain about two weeks ago now.

  • Hi Ktlondon,

I am so sorry my post has made you scared, that's the last thing I wanted to do. Prior to diagnosis I was told that the pain I had was very unlikely to be cancer related. It was like a bruised achy constant pain and struggled wearing bras and sleeping , just down the out side of breast. Kinda similar to the pains you get with your monthly cycle but stronger and not easing. I didn't have any other symptoms- no lumps or bumps or size and colour.

im glad you have gone to get it checked and that you have your mammogram tomorrow. It really could be a number of things so try not to focus on the worse case scenario just yet- easier said then done I know. Prior to your mammogram remember to take some painkillers as with it being so tender already, when it squashes it the pain worsens - I ended up in tears ha ha Again not meaning to scare you at all just prepare you as it's not a pain free test but the best you can be having.

please let me know how you get on tomorrow.

    fingers tightly crossed for you!

    big hugs, Claire x

  • Hi Jojonrbrad,

How did it go yesterday? Are you ok?

  • Thank you for your reply.

my pain is hard to describe, I can wear bras As my pain  is only located at the top of my right breast.

Did yours hurt to the touch? Mine is very tender I only have to run my fingers over it as it hurts.

i will be in tears regardless.

    I will do x

  • Also how long did you have the pain for til you had your first mammogram?

did you notice the pain worsen over time? Did it ever go for an hour or so or depending on what position you were laying/sitting in? X

  • Hello,

yes, it was a dull pain constantly but to touch or knock with my arm, I would wince at the pain. It took me 8 wks before seeing a gp about it as felt like it was silly to go about a bruised boob, and then another 2 wks on top to be seen by breast clinic and have all the tests. I can't remember the pain stopping once it started tbh.

Good luck tomorrow and try not to worry too much. Hope you have someone going with you for support.

  • Mine makes me wince also.

i noticed the pain two weeks ago and have a mammogram tomorrow so I'm thankful it's all happening quickly.

yes I have my partner coming with me.

  • Hi Ktlondon,

I'm sorry. I certainly didn't mean to make you cry. Remembering how I felt both times before I was diagnosed, I cried copiously , which was totally out of character for me. Since then I have learnt that this is not at all unusual. Most of us become very emotional whilst waiting for answers.

You will feel better once you know what you are dealing with. Here's hoping that you get your mammogram results soon.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for you tomorrow.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello

just got back from the hospital and apparently I have an inflamed chest wall.

very happy yet confused as the pain feels like it's in my boob only! Crazy
