Just found out I have breast cancer

Hi all,

well today has been a shock to the system to say the least. Been having breast ache for a number of weeks so went to doctors who said she couldn’t feel anything and not to worry yet due to being breast they have to refer. So today I went with my mum ( im 38 yet still need mum) thinking worse case scenario it’s a cyst to be then scanned and had a mammogram then a biopsy in 5 areas and then went into Dr rooms and straight away knew wasn’t good as saw the McMillan nurse. I was told that I have a number of abnormal growths and 90% sure it’s cancer.. both mum and I broke down in tears but they couldn’t give me any more info until next Friday when the biopsy results come in. I am so scared and don’t know what to expect. I’m a single mum to a 5 year old and heads a shed! Any help or advice would be appreciated :-)

  • Hi,

I have been to the doctor.
She was really nice, she found the lump also.
she asked me how big I thought it was I said size of a grape and she said she thinks exactly the same.
she also said my glands were up under my arm.
she asked if I had being unwell, I told her I had been for themm I'm last 12 months.
pleursey, water infection. Ear infection full of cold etc

but like I said I have put all this down to the stress of my mum having Bowel cancer. My mam is my best friend as well as my mam. So the anxiety I had and still have got I have honestly thought had me run down. Causing coughs n colds etc

anyway I am waiting for breast clinic to contact me. It is a cancer pathway so will be in the next two weeks

also my mum is all finished with chemo and is really well now  thank you for asking xxxx

    Hi Jojonbrand,

I am glad to hear that you found the GP quite helpful today and that she has referred you to the breast clinic. The next two weekswill seem like forever, but keep yourself as busy as you can to distract you from the wait. You will probably have another anxious week's wait to get your test results after your first appointment.

Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you. Some people have naturally lumpy breasts, but no cancer. I am hoping and praying that you are one of these people.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • The hospital have called me.
    if am going tomorrow.
that means I will not have even waited 48 hours. X

  •

    Hi Jojonrbrand,

They must have had a cancellation. This is great news, as the two week wait feels like forever.

I hope that all goes well for you tomorrow.

Please let us know how you get on.
    Will be thinking of you.

  • Hello.  I was just diagnosed yesterday with triple negative breast cancer. This is so scary as I have been having tests since December and was initially told I had DCIS so just needed surgery. I will be starting chemotherapy in around a week and a half to try to shrink the cancer before surgery. I'm frightened to look up triple negative...T xx

    Hi T-race,

Welcome to the forum that nobody really wants to join. I am so sorry to hear about your latest diagnosis. This must have come as quite a shock when you were initially told that you had DCIS.

Don't look up anything on Google, as much of the information there is poorly researched, out of date and only aimed at the spectacular. This will only serve to make you more worried. There are a number of people on this site who have triple negative breast cancer who are doing well. I'm sure that some of them will come along to talk to you in due course.

I know that none of us like the idea of having chemo, but it can be very effective in reducing the size of your tumour. If you want to find out more about this type of cancer, please go to the search box on the blue banner at the top of this page and pop triple negative breast cancer into the box. This will bring up previous posts on the subject which you may find helpful. You will also find something about this on the Cancer research website - you are better sticking to the more respected sites like this than relying on Dr Google for information.

The trick when you start chemo is to drink lots of water. Try not to think of the enormity of all this at the moment. Take things day by day, or even hour by hour if things get too much for you. Keep yourself busy to detract from the wait. This doesn't have to be all work related, spend some time doing things that you enjoy.

Have you got a date for starting chemo yet? Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hiya.

sorry for jumping in on your post.

Noticed your symptoms and it has really scared me.

i have my first mammogram booked in tomorrow as I have a really painful right breast.
it started two weeks ago and it has worsened.

The pain is a horrible pain I can't really describe its really sensitive I only got to run my fingertips over it and it hurts, the pain is only in the top of my boob not my whole boob.

i have implants (4 years old) so I'm really hoping it's to do with my implant but I got a horrible feeling that it is not.

was you told pain was an uncommon symptom.

    i have no other symptoms.

    Hi Ktlondon,

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms, but am glad to hear that you have a mamogram booked for tomorrow. It is unusual to have pain associated with breast cancer, but not unheard of. How long have you had this pain for?

I am not a doctor, merely another cancer pilgrim, but wonder if this could be an infection when your breast is so tender. There have been some problems with certain implants recently, so here's hoping that this is all that is wrong. I know just how scary the prospect of another cancer is and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
