Just found out I have breast cancer

Hi all,

well today has been a shock to the system to say the least. Been having breast ache for a number of weeks so went to doctors who said she couldn’t feel anything and not to worry yet due to being breast they have to refer. So today I went with my mum ( im 38 yet still need mum) thinking worse case scenario it’s a cyst to be then scanned and had a mammogram then a biopsy in 5 areas and then went into Dr rooms and straight away knew wasn’t good as saw the McMillan nurse. I was told that I have a number of abnormal growths and 90% sure it’s cancer.. both mum and I broke down in tears but they couldn’t give me any more info until next Friday when the biopsy results come in. I am so scared and don’t know what to expect. I’m a single mum to a 5 year old and heads a shed! Any help or advice would be appreciated :-)

  • how are you doing? I think it’s results day for both of us tomorrow?! Ill be keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you xx

  •

    Hi Pepesmama and Claire,,

I hope that all goes well with the results tomorrow.

Will be thinking of you both.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hope you are well ️ Did you have aching symptoms x

  • Hi Jojonrbrad,

Yes my only symptom was a very aching breast, similar to those you get on a monthly cycle but constant. No lumps or discolouration or change of shape. Are you experiencing similar? Have you been to doctors and then breast clinic?

My diagnosis was 10 months ago now, and after a mastectomy with immediate diep reconstruction and 3 weeks of radiotherapy in September, I am now clear. It's was a scary time and still not fully (mentally) digested it all.

Hope you are ok and like previous members say - please don't google anything and wait for your official diagnosis.

    xx

  • How kind of you to reply.
I am so happy to read your fantastic news

although I do understand the fear cancer puts into you takes more getting over than anything

how old are you if you don't mind me asking

    i am 31 years old.
I started about five weeks ago with under arm aching.
I thought oh my glands are up, I bet I'm gettin a bit of cold etc.
it has gone on & worsened overnight time into the side of my breast, and now side and underneath.
it isn't a pain.... it's a constant ache. And feels bruised to touch.
it might just be me, but I can feel different lumps and bumps in my boobs... always have done.
I am going to the gp in the morning.

I have sort of ignored it a bit because when you research on internet it's say breast cancer is painless. But I have read on here that is not always the case.

.... and in all honesty it has been a standing joke at work that I am constantly ill(this has only been over the last 12 months!) like with coughs and colds and ear infections..... but I have put it down to stress and worry, my mum has just recovered from Bowel cancer surgery and chemo.... and honestly it has affected me soooo bad, the fear of the unknown and worry I actually thought I had run myself down.

But this in my boob is very achy. I cannot lay on it, also I cannot wear no bra (like you do in your own house) because it's like an even more dragging aching.

i am calling for an appointment tomorrow at gp

sending you lots and lots of love

    well done!!!

thank you sooo much for your reply.

    Hi Jojonrbrad,

Welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear about  the symptoms you have with your breast and underarm.

It is always sensible to get examined by your GP. When you have already ignored this for a while, ask for an emergency appointment when you phone tomorrow. You may need to tell the receptionist why you need this, but this should mean that you don't have the usual long wait to be seen.

If your GP suspects anything at all suspicious you will be referred to the breast clinic, where they will carry out tests to discover whether or not there is anything untoward present. You are right that cancer isn't usually accompanied by pain, but pain is still present in some cases. There are a number of potential reasons for your symptoms and many of them are less serious than cancer. It is also a fact that only 1 person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic will turn out to have breast cancer, so the odds are good for you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,
    Jolamine xx

  • Hey,

im so sorry to hear about you mum and can totally understand why your feeling run down. How is she doing? Is she still having treatment now?

im now 39 but was 38 at time of diagnosis. Last thing I want to do is put more worry in you but yes your symptoms do sound very similar. When my pain first started I just thought I had pulled something after press ups but then it continued and my words were ive a bruised boob as couldn't explain it any differently. Even when I went to the doctors, 8 weeks of ignoring, because of no lumps or anything ( I was a double f so always felt lumpy like you say), she said there is nothing to worry about but due to it being breast need to refer to breast clinic and tbh am so thankful as they found very early stages (DCIS) where it hadn't yet spread. Always makes me think if doc didn't refer as they r required to and going by her initial diagnosis, it may have been left and will have spread by time I'd  get the mandatory mammograms at 50! - scary.

defo get docs rang in the morning and ensure they refer you just to be on the safe side. Don't know about you but when I went to docs felt silly and like I'd be wasting their time with a bruised boob but just so thankful I did. Please don't be thinking just because of my story then it will be same for you even though does sound like you have already been on the Dr google. Try and keep calm and try laying on your back and put a pillow under your arm to stop gravity pull at it in the meantime to get a better nights sleep.

I'm always here if you need to chat and please let me know how you get on at docs, fingers tightly crossed for you.

    Big hugs!

  • I'm sat waiting in the doctors now, will let you know.
