Just found out I have breast cancer

Hi all,

well today has been a shock to the system to say the least. Been having breast ache for a number of weeks so went to doctors who said she couldn’t feel anything and not to worry yet due to being breast they have to refer. So today I went with my mum ( im 38 yet still need mum) thinking worse case scenario it’s a cyst to be then scanned and had a mammogram then a biopsy in 5 areas and then went into Dr rooms and straight away knew wasn’t good as saw the McMillan nurse. I was told that I have a number of abnormal growths and 90% sure it’s cancer.. both mum and I broke down in tears but they couldn’t give me any more info until next Friday when the biopsy results come in. I am so scared and don’t know what to expect. I’m a single mum to a 5 year old and heads a shed! Any help or advice would be appreciated :-)

    Hi Claire,

I see that you are still waiting for results. Have you discussed having a double mastectomy with your surgeon? Many are not too keen to do a prophylactic mastectomy, so it's always worth discussing it between you.

I hope that your lymph nodes turn out to be clear.

Do please update us when you get your results.

    Kind regards,

    jolamine xx

    Hi Pepesmama,

I am glad to hear that you managed to get through your mammogram. It's easy enough apart from that claustrephobic feeling. It cannot have been easy for you to get through this with your phobia - well done! It is always a good idea to try and pin anyone taking any tests as to how soon you are likely to get your results. Otherwise, you can be left waiting for quite a while.

I hope that you have 'read' your radiographer well and, that there is no further spread.

Don't forget to update us when you hear something. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Yorkshirecherry,

Welcome to our community. I am so sorry to hear about your secondary diagnosis. Are you having any further treatment?

I sincerely hope that you are right and, that you manage to see your grandchildren all grow up.

Do please keep us updated on how you are getting on? We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you so much. I was having a bit of a bad day but wanted to say to the other ladies I’ve had 18 brilliant years since my first diagnosis. I’ve travelled to Africa,India, Sri Lanka, Thailand etc.

the Cancer unfortunately reactivated in the autumn in my spine so walking is now difficult. But there are ways round this. The letrozole had stopped working so I am now on Capecitabine which is bringing my tumour markers down and not giving me side effects.

a really good thing to do is join a local support group if you can. I go to a Breast Cancer Care one in Lees.

  • Hey, well least that’s the MRI done now and well done as with ur anxiety plus the C , I can only imagine how stressful it was for you. So you didn’t get a return date for results ? Is that normal? Surely it’s not something you will get through post ?? And yes, I was same and seeing if they talk to me whilst looking at me or avoiding eye contact as that’s a giveaway ha ha

work is is a good idea but so hard to stay focused when we have results still pending and defo won’t help with where you work either ..

my next biopsy is on is on Thursday for the lymph node under arm.. the last one they took was just a needle biopsy where as now they are doing a core one as even though is showed clear they still weren’t happy with the look of it so  this is more of a bigger sample.. if cancer cells in it then that’s  when the talk of chemo etc starts as means invasive  :-( D day for me is the 15th so another waiting game :-(

Let me know when your due ur results and fingers crossed for u :-)

    keep in touch xx

    Hi Yorkshirecherry,

I am sure that other ladies have appreciated your post, as have I. So many people think that a cancer diagnosis signals the end and, there are so many young mums with young children coming along here recently who are feeling like that.

However, after all this time we are sorry to hear about the appearance of your secondaries 7 years ago and, the difficulties you are now having with walking. I am glad to hear that Capecitabine is bringing your tumour markers down and, that you are not having any side-effects from it.

Your advice about joining a local support group is good. I am just approaching 10 years since I was first diagnosed. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in that time and, I find my local support group very helpful. I am also a member of a pain management self-help group, which is also very useful.

We are all hoping that you have many more years ahead and, fulfil your ambition to see your grandchildren grow up.

    Kind regards,

    jolamine xx

  • Hi

I am 39 years old and I was diagnosed with triple negative invasiv ductal breast cancer , stage 2 on 25 of March 2019, after I had the mammogram, scans and biopsy on 18of March.

I also had a MRI on 26 of March and a follow up consultation with the consultant. Unfortunately the waiting list for starting the chemo is long and actually I was referred to do a CT scan and to meet my oncologist in 2 weeks time and then to wait another 2 weeks to start the treatment.

i am so scared for waiting 6 weeks after they found my breast cancer, because I have it already on my lymph nodes and I started feeling pain on my other breast where are another lumps, which didn’t show any risk on my scan, according with the doctor.

I don’t know where to go and what to do.

    I appreciate any advice. Thanks

    I am scared

  • hello ramonici,

welcome to the forum no one wants to be on. I'm currently going through chemo and was shocked to read there is a waiting list in your area! I do trust the experts though, and feel certain that if you needed chemo sooner you would be bumped up the list?

It may help if you rang your breast care nurse? She hopefully can put your mind at rest...

I totally understand about all the other aches and pains, I convince myself it's spreading! This is normal....we all do it....

There ( sadly) are loads of us breast lasses on here and I know others will show up when they can....

in the meantime, stay off google, and let us know how your getting on.....xxxx

  • Hi Ramonici

I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I'm 39 too and was diagnosed last week so I can totally relate to how you're feeling. I've got a lumpectomy first, before any further treatment but I'm so paranoid that it's spread already - I feel I can't trust my body anymore and every tiny ache worries me. As Marlyn said, we all do it.

Everything is very scary and overwhelming at the moment but this forum is a wonderful place and there are so many other women going through it too. We are all here to support each other. It's not a situation that any of us want to be in, but at least we are not alone.

Please keep us updated on how you get on and please post on here any time you're feeling anxious as we can all help reassure each other xxx

  • Don’t be frightened lovelies I am taking a minute from hospital bed to say this to you. Had lumpectomy this afternoon, lymph node clearance.  Feeling relieved it’s out. I look at it that cancer has been cut out and any further treatment is preventative.

I’ll be here for you. I have no pain. Only pain is this drain for lymph node removal.  Have a shoulder bag to carry it in.

We are all here to see you through this xxxxxxx
