My sister and I arrived yesterday. Before being allowed to see mum, the doctor spoke to us and my father to say that things have deteriorated at such a fast rate that it may only now before a matter of days.

This came as a shock, but when finally seeing her we knew this wasn’t a worst case scenario just to prepare us. From a thin and pained mum at Christmas, was just an emaciated mum, barely awake and able to recognise us all. In her more lucid moments she knew who each of us were.

She’s always been such a strong person, to see what this *** disease can do just floored me. The hope of having her back with us in the UK to pass has, well, passed. We were asked to decide on carrying out any further tests (biopsy etc) which the doctors advised would not make any difference to her treatment due to her weakness, but could cause pain and discomfort. We asked that she just be allowed to rest.

Terribly sorry to read about this. It is so difficult watching someone we love change in this way. 

My Mum was also diagnosed with lung cancer (both lungs and liver and involvement). She was misdiagnosed by her GP and for a couple of months we watched her lose weight and become a shadow of herself in every way. She went downhill quite quickly after diagnosis. 

You are so brave for having made the decision for your Mum to rest and not be disturbed by further tests. If is was my Mum in this situation again, I would have done the same as you. 

How long are you able to stay out there with your Mum, FPC? I understand moving her back to the UK sadly isn’t an option xx
