Possible Secondary Cancer

Hello,

Yesterday my boyfriend was diagnosed with cancer he is just 27.

He found a lump on his neck back in October, which has grown dramatically since. He has had two seperate blood tests done which neither showed any cancer cells at the end of last year, he had a camera down his nose, he had one biopsy that came back inconclusive and had a second more detailed biopsy last Friday which has shown cancer cells.

They dont know what cancer it is and because the cancer had been found in the lymph node in his neck they think it is possibly secondary cancer!

We are in complete shock and devastated, it feels like a dream. We were not expecting this news at all after his bloods were ok.

He has been told he will receive a letter in the next two weeks for a CT scan and more tests to try and find out what type of cancer it is, It just doesn't seem quick enough. It has taken over 3 months for this diagnosis. I am so worried it has been left too long and he has had it for months.

I have been reading about unkown primary cancer and the statics of survial seem so low, I dont know what to do, has anyone got a similar story? or can give any advise, should he start to change his diet or life style? should he stop going to the gym?

Thank-you for listening

Hannah

  • I am so sorry to read this, what a worry. All I can say is please try and stay off dr google, he will diagnose all sorts of problems and illnesses! Also, have faith in the NHS, they will soon get to the bottom of this. In the meantime carry on as normal as you can , if your boyfriend smokes he must try and stop, carry on at the gym as long as he feels fine to do so.

I understand your shock, it turns your whole world upside down ...if you get a chance keep dipping in and out of this forum, it will give you comfort and strength knowing your not on your own.....also, you may want to post this on the ask the nurses page? They are always very reassuring......xx

  • Thank-you for replying, I will do that . xx
