Chemotherapy

I am 30and have diagnosed with breast cancer with my lymph nodes, I had a pet scan and no cancer is showing anywhere else .. I am wondering while having chemotherapy if I can still wear my nose stud/hoop. Loosing my hair is going to be hard enough but I feel this is another part of my identity? X

  • Hi Lucyher2,

Sorry about your diagnosis, I hope you find this place as useful as I have as you fight this beast.

Chemotherapy is just chemicals delivered into your bloodstream so it won't stop you wearing jewellery for piercings.  The only advice I can think that would be relevant to piercings is to not get any new ones while undergoing chemo as you want to avoid getting new wounds as much as possible.

I lost all my hair.  I wasn't worried about it although it was hard looking so different to my twin as that is very much part of my identity.  Still, despite having a great wig I mostly just went out bald and I didn't care really.  Wigs have come on leaps and bounds though and even when visiting places like MacMillan and seeing my breast cancer nurse they weren't even realising it was a wig.  And, as you can see from my hair colour in the photo (that's my natural colour) it isn't an easy colour to replicate.

The other thing is you blink and it's already growing back!!!!  It seems like such a long way off when you're starting treatment but it really does fly by.  Maybe use needing a wig as an opportunity to try different looks, have some fun with it?  Anything to make it seem less medical!

Best wishes, and I look forward to hearing more as you go through treatment etc.  You know where we all are if you have any questions.
