Just been diagnosed with breast cancer

I'm 59 years old and was called back after my usual 3 year mammogram, follow up showed small area 11mm stage 2 breast cancer. Had a great consultation was feeling very optimistic,  obviously not what I wanted to hear but caught early. My excision booked for 31 December, in I went spoke to surgeon then anaesthetist, up to have wire inserted to guide the surgeon. All ok so far then they did another mammogram to check wire positioned correctly. Oops the doctor had guided it to an area of concern she saw on the ultrasound and not the area that was previously biopsies and what would have been operated on

Basically then this is 2nd area of concern so operation cancelled, wire removed, another biopsy taken.

I don't think I have ever felt so deflated and sad, I think I was coping really well before but this has knocked me for six. New biopsy results not due till 10th, I'll ask then if this area was one that was missed on original mammogram or the follow up. I really just want the whole thing to be over with, I just don't have the energy to play the blame game unlike my husband lol

  • Ellie I hope your doing well now.  I was just diagnosed with breast cancer yesterday. I did

not expect this new and am just shocked. Very upset and my whole worlds fallen apart. Usually I am a strong person. Since yesterday I can’t think straight.

I had my Armpit lymph nodes removed 3 weeks ago still recovering it’s painful now I just got the news it

was cancerous.  It’s a long lonely battle. X not told my son or family yet as not come to terms with it myself.

I wish you all the best. We can do this all of us x
