Diagnosed with Breast Cancer, awaiting Ct/Bone scan results

I have recently been diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer, 5cm tumour.  I am due to start having FEC-T chemo,  6 rounds over 18 weeks.

In the meantime,  I am torturing myself thinking something else has been found on scans. My main worry is having been a smoker, could it have spread as secondary to my lungs. I am having all sorts of thoughts.

I am due to have my node biopsy on Monday. My ultrasound has shown nothing in nodes, and my consultant could not feel anything, but she wants to do biopsy to be thorough.

My BCN,  said to me on the phone yesterday she would let me know as soon as results have been received.

I am trying to be positive.  Wondered if any of you ladies may be able to share your own experiences of how you got through the waiting for test results. I honestly do not recall ever being so anxious about anything before!

If it is bad news,  and there is a secondary, I am not sure how I will cope.

Thanks in advance

  • Oh purple, been scrolling through your thread, words fail me! You said you were getting a pet scan today?? Please say it went ahead????

  • I sent my message as you were posting this...the words " very treatable" and " not in dire straights" are the ones that stick out and the ones to hold on to....you are having a rough ride on this rollercoaster.....it's got to level out soon xxxx

  • Hi Marilyn,

How are you getting on post lumpectomy? Well I hope.

What other treatment do you need?

Yes,  FINALLY had it today because they put on Sat clinic! I've been worried sick.

Everything has been so slow. Mentally very draining.

Now worrying about my results. PETscan can see everything !

    Xxx

  • I am waiting ( we're good at that aren't we!) for appointment to oncologist...of course in the meantime my brain is imagining all kinds of torturous treatment!

you journey has certainly been a slow one, you were diagnosed on the 28 th Dec weren't you? Makes you wonder without all the cancellations how much further along you would be....have you any idea how long the pet scan results take to come back? Xx

  • I know how you feel Marlyn. If I remember correctly we were diagnosed around same time.

You've had your surgery, that was a big step, you've come through that.  So next step I imagine is whatever treatment your oncologist has planned for you. I'm sure you are scared,  but remember lots of ladies have treatment, and the team will have says to get you through this. I'm sorry I cannot remember what your diagnosis was.

We are here to support one another through this horrid journey. We are in the same boat!

I attended breast clinic on 11 Dec, my mammogram.saw the tumor and I had biopsy there and then. They told me same day it was breast cancer.

Christmas and New Year did slow things down. My ct and bone scan were done 27&28 Dec. I got those results 3 Jan. So in the main, the PET scan gas been biggest delay.

    Big hugs    xxxx

    Hi Purple,

Well, at long last! - I am so glad that your PET scan went ahead this morning. I'm afraid that I don't know how long it takes to get your results, as this is one test that I haven't had. I don't think that it takes that long.

I truly hope that this doesn't throw up anything additional or untoward.

Hang on to what your consultant told you and, I sincerely hope that he is correct.

I have my fingers crossed for a good result.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you Jolamine.

I have read online that a solitary nodule on lung, can be another primary cancer and may not be connected to my breast cancer.  Really unsure what to think.

I just need to hope that my consultant is right and that I will not be facing a dreadful new diagnosis on Thursday,

    Hi Purple,

I am glad to hear that you've got an appointment for your PET scan results and hope that there is no further sign of spread or additional nodules on Thursday.

Hoping and praying for good results.

  • Hi Jolamine

I just wanted to let you know I had my results today,( a day early) and my PETscan was clear! It's in my lymph nodes,  but there is no secondary spread. My team said this was the best outcome they could have expected.

Lung nodule they will monitor with CT (3monthly), Verterbrae thickening is wear and tear.

I am ER & PRO negative.  HER positive.

I am starting chemo tomorrow, had my bloods done and good to go.

I would like to thank you for your prayers, kind words and  support. It really has meant a lot over the last 6 weeks.

    Best wishes

    Hi Purple,

I am delighted to hear of your results. They certainly are about as good as you can get! Did they say how many of your lymph nodes are affected?

I hope that all goes well with your chemo and, shall be waiting to hear how you are coping with it.

Unfortunately, I lost my 97 year old father-in-law at 3.20 this morning. He lost his wife 4 months ago to the day. He went downhill fast after Christmas and, was admitted to hospital last Wednesday. We were told that he had cancer in multiple organs, but it was of unknown primary.

Because of his frailty, the doctors said that they wouldn't do any invasive tests or treatment. They know that it had spread to his liver, brain, gastro-intestinal and thoracic tracts. Sadly, he has passed, less than a week after diagnosis. We are all reeling by the speed with which this has happened.

I shall have my fingers crossed for you tomorrow.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
