Chemo or not chemo?

Hi, having been diagnosed with Triple Neg grade 3 breast cancer in October I am about to undertake my 3rd round of surgery still trying to clear the margins. I have been advised to think about chemo but this will only give me a 4% improved outcome rate. I am 49 and struggling to understand what the benefits will be if they successfully remove all of the pre-cancerous cells left?

  • Hi Mojo,

Sorry you've got such a tough decision to make.

I think that last sentence that you turned into a question is definitely one to ask the oncology team or your surgeon.  It might be key to helping make your decision.  After all you can't know what chemo will be like until you're on it.  Of course you could start chemo then stop it if you're finding it too much, do remember that when making your decision.  Are they suggesting chemo because they worry they won't be able to surgically remove all the pre-cancerous cells?  Or is it because they believe the cancer has already spread?

Sorry this is probably of no help, but my view is to trust your gut, but get that question answered first!

Best wishes in making the decision.
