Ovarian cancer- stage 4

I'd like to have some info from other people experiencing this illness.
Hi everyone, I really need some info about the way you have been treated. My mum has a stage 4 ovarian cancer ( low part of the right lung, womb).
She has having a quite good response with carboplatin taxol and now the oncologist suggested to add Bevac to her therapy.
The surgeon before sending her to the oncologist to complete a 3-month chemo states that they will proceed with a CT exam and, after with the surgery, of about 6/9 hours depending on the final result after this 3-months treatment.
Now the oncologist changed the plan, adding this bevac and talking about a 4-month therapy  with the idea that the surgery will never be done.
Is it possible he changes the plan like this? He has no even asked for their advice before telling me that. How can it be possible?

  • Hello Elanor and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I know you were wanting to hear from others so I just wanted to put you in touch with [@Hobbit7121]‍ and [@Emma84]‍ as both of their mum's have the same diagnosis as yours and hopefully they will reply when they can to share their experiences with you now I've mentioned them in this post.

If you have your mum's permission, do be sure to speak to her oncologist so you can get these questions answered as they are the best position to explain this change.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello Steph, you're so kind. I really appreciate your help and hope they will share their experiences.

Well, I have my mum's permission and I have just spoken to the oncologist and he told me that "is a good theraphy I am adding the bevac to help your mum". I am sure of that, but what about talking with the surgeon first? They sent to the oncologist to complete a 3-month chemo and know he is able to change the plan like this? I am going to the hospital tomorrow, to have an appointment to speak with her surgeon, the one who made the laparoscopic surgery to do the biopsy and who sent us to do chemo before a new CT to decide about surgery.

I am worried cause this bevac is kind of dangerous, and is usually taken after surgery to avoid haemorrhage.

Internet is the only way to have info and that's what I found.

Hope to have an explanation, I think we all deserve it.

  • Hello Elanor,

i see this was posted a while ago. I hope your mum is well and responding to treatment. Sadly i can’t offer any advice re different treatments as my mum sadly didnt response at all well to chemo.

    Very kind regards

  • Hello,

i really hope your Mum is doing okay and you got clarification on her treatment plan. My mum has just been diagnosed with stage 3/4 ovarian cancer which has spread to her spleen and stomach. I don’t have any advice but I know the feeling of feeling out of control and confused. I feel like our journey is going to be a tough and long one but trying to stay positive.

  • Hello Emma, thank you for your kind reply. I really feel the same as you do, we're so confunsed. Everything seems to be out of control, we only have to hope and pray that everything will work and give to our mum's the best possible.

We're waiting for the next step, she had 4 chemo with carboplatn and taxol.

Wish you all the best possible
