Hi mrscarter. Welcome to the forum.
Let me start by saying that we're not qualified here, and I'm not a doctor.
My understanding is that a basal cell carcinoma (sometimes called a rodent ulcer) is highly curable and very very rarely does it spread. I have a friend who had a rodent ulcer on his face for many years. It was easily removed. That was over 30 years ago, and he's stll here.
So, while hearing the word "cancer" is always a shock, you should come out of this ok.
Welcome to the forum mrscarter although I'm sorry for the reason you find yourself posting.
I have had a look around the forum and found that [@shoblerone], [@Juliette2394]. [@Jojo77] and [@sadmum] have all had this diagnosis but on different parts of their body and now that I've tagged them in this post they will hopefully pop by at some point to say hello and share their knowledge and experiences with you.
As you've only found out about this today, I'm including some general information we have about this type of cancer on our website for you to have a look in case you'd like to find out more.
Kind regards,
Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
Sadly it took eight months for an email
saying I had been tagged but for the benefit of a future searcher. I had a basal cell carcinoma on my eyelid. I had two small ops to remove it and in July this year i should
be fully discharged from the hospital.
This type of cancer is highly curable and while it can come back it isn’t the worst.
I think it’s the psychological impact that’s hard but for anyone with this diagnosis- try not to think it’s the end of the world.
Im no dr but I’ve learned a lot about cell changes and can say it isn’t all doom and gloom.
