I had a hysteroscopy back in March and  have been recently diagnosed with Complex Hyperplasia (not sure if Atypia or not).  The Gynae consultant put me on medroxyprogesterine for 3 months (not sure why to be honest) and when I stopped taking it had a heavy period that lasted 12 days, but nothing since.  She did talk about the Mirena coil and at a very last resort a hysterectomy, and also how it important it is to loose weight (my BMI is very high). 

Looking at your chats the Mirena coil seems to be an effect treatment - but what  effects having this fitted have you had? The internet (I know we shouldn't use Dr Google) is awash with all sorts from cramps to mood changes to bleeding.

I had the coil put in in Jan and was due to be out by June but due to Covid I had it until August.

My experience with the Mirena coil was constant breakthrough bleeding though much much much lighter than before the coil. I always had a tightness around the middle but nothing unbearable, but certainly noticed it not being there when I had the coil removed. My moods were all over the place and I ate a lot more carbs! There was no cramping at all for me except for when it went in.

The coil can be a longer term solution but it depends on what you want, do you have children or plan to have children?

Every woman is different though some people don't even feel the effects so perhaps try it for 3 months and see how it goes? Dr Google scared me a lot too but it helps to read different posts to see the common themes, but you may not have the same experience.

Unfortunately my bleeding went straight back to how it was after the coil was removed so now looking at how to regulate the hormones, luckily the coil fixed the endometrial hyperplasia but with a chance of recurrence within a year. Weight had a big part to play as well as stress in the hyperplasia as well as estrogen dominance.

I tried accupuncture (once a week for about a year), meditation, prayer, trying to cut down foods that are higher in estrogen like soy and doing things that made me happy like watching my favourite movie...being a bit selfish sometimes, to help with the stress and it's made a huge impact. The weight will shift when you are in the right place mentally.

I hope it works out for you, it's scary sometimes reading what's happening with other people but it's so helpful to talk to people.

Thank you for all that information - good to hear its not been as horrendous as some of the stories you read on Dr Google.  Although I don't like the sound of eating more carbs as I'm already overweight!!! And you are right,  it's getting me head in the right place to loose the weight.

I don't have children and am in my early 50's, and have not had periods for couple years - my GP told me I was in the peri-menopause, so not sure how the coil will help.

Lots of questions to ask the consultant next time I see her.

Oh Helz, thank you so much for writing this positive experience. It’s so difficult to find good reviews on the Mirena. I had the Mirena fitted last week to treat Endometrial Hyperplasia (terrible ordeal, fainted, excruciating pain, wheel chaired through the hospital ) 

one consultant said I’d have to have a hysterectomy which was gut wrenching as I’ve just married last year and we’d like a baby. Now a different consultant has put me on this plan to try to protect fertility. So pleased to see this worked out for you. I hope things are going well!
