Newly diagnosed - help!

Told yesterday that I have endometrial cancer and a total hysterectomy is planned. I am 74 and feel blasted away by this, the 'c' word just keeps popping into my brain and I can't stop it.  Consultant has said once this is done, he will have a better idea about any spread to other organs.  Thing is, I have been put off by my GP from being referred to a consultant because she said 'you'll be moving house soon, have the consultation when you've moved'.  Has this delay all year made it worse?  Apart from this, I have multiple health problems - diverticular disease (pain is awful), rectocele, cystocele, Type II diabetes, spinal stenosis, bursitis, fibromyalgia, underactive thyroid, high blood pressure - how on earth did it get so bad?  I eat really well and sensible - low carb mostly, lots of veg, all home cooking, no convenience foods, an occasional glass of wine, never smoked, been a swimmer all my life, done yoga, and ice skating.  Feel this is just not fair!!  My poor husband of 53 years doesn't know what to do to 'mend' me.  Anyone had treatment for this cancer?  Please.

  • Hi Me today. 55 married 30 year. my poor husband feel so alone.trying so hard to get to grips with it and failing all I think we can do is love and us
  • Hi

I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer almost 3 years ago.

All I can say is hang on in there after the surgery do everything they tell you to to recover from that. They will then have more information about where the cancer is and what is the best ongoing treatment.

You need to be strong and not worry about the what if's. Ask All the questions you need don't worry about them seeming silly I used to write my questions down whenever I thought of them and take the list to my appointment.

Try not to worry I know easier said than done but fin your way of coping and if that means a melt down now and again then fine.

  • We have both been prescribed Sertraline by GP to help over the worst. Also Rapid Access team have psychotherapists to help us. Have you tried this tkerry. Ask!! Problem with us is all our 3 sons live in different places in the UK and so we have no family support.
  • Thanks River.  I will.  Surgery will be laporoscopy so hope to recover quite soon - but - knowing me .....

Keeping busy with cross stitch, still going out too.  Not looking forward to the day of the surgery, but feeling more positive today, although hubby lacking motivation to get anything done,  bless him.
