Went in for fibroids to be removed, came out with cancer!

So last Wednesday 31/05/17 I went in for elective surgery to remove 12 fibroids, I knew this was major  or surgery. The biggest risk was having to have a hysterectomy at 36. The surgery went well until a few hours after being in recovery where I had an episode with clinic-tonic tendencies, this lasted around 90-120seconds.

i was seen by a neuro surgeon who tested me and was going to send me for a CT the next morning. On my way to the ward, I had another similar episode. Following this I had a head CR and shortly after was informed late into the evening on the 31/05 that I have a cancerous brain tumour.

the plan was that I would remain in hospital for a few days anyway due to my laparotomy, however I was placed on a neuro ward for the best care.

On the 1/06 I was visited by the doctor who had intially told me the night before that I had cancer, he was making sure I had taken it in.

since then I had an MRI on Friday 2/06 and after 10 minutes of arguing I found I was still a Gaeyne patient or not seen on the 3rd by a neuro surgeon who told me my case would Be discussed at the MDT on 6/06 an for that I couldn't go home or wait in hospital. Needless to say with the shock, I decide do I wanted to be at home.

i am still waiting for anyone from the hospital to speak to me/signpost me to support or simply inform me what my diagnosis and prognosis is.

i have a 4x3.8cm growth in my front right side of my brain. Also got a call out the blue on the 6/06 to ask me to come back in for another MRI but no explaination as to why he.

i have been told I can't drive, lack all my independence and Ann basically feeling helpless and angry. Anyone have any advice on how quickly I should get seen?

  • Hi Biggles

This is the worst time because the Doctors get all the information togother and then discuss your case and treatment and all you can do is wait. They wont give you a diagnosis or prognosis until they have the facts.  If they have asked for another scan then its probably to gather more information.

Have you been given a McMillan nurse contact as you should be able to talk to them and they may be able to find out where you are in the process.  If you havent try contacting your GP to see if they can get any information for you.

If you are recovering from a hysterectomy then you should not be driving or lifting.

Helpless and angry are sentiments all us cancer patients can identfy with so thats normal.
