The Fear

Not me but my husband. A cough that wouldn't clear; xray, ultrasound, ct scan. Now tomorrow is a biopsy. Everything so far is terrifying.  I seem to remember only about ten words from the consultation on Friday: lung cancer, secondary, kidney tumour, inoperable.

Then he said there was nothing he could say until the biopsy. I'm not sure there's much else he can say. Today I went to work and couldn't say anything because they would only ask questions I couldn't answer.  Now we have to wait in limbo over Christmas trying to create some kind of normal when I don't think we'll ever know normal again. I've read everything I could find and I wish I could unread it all. My husband wishes he'd never gone near the doctor.

Good luck to you today also for your scan. Let us know.

It's so quick but that's better, isn't it? Find out as much as they can as quickly as possible then something can be done? Better than to hang on. It already seems forever but we have known less than a week. You for not much longer.

    Luck luck luck.

  • Will do Balibee, just back from scan now the wait

  • There's a lot of that isn't there? My husbands doctor is on holiday so I sent him back to the GP who thinks the fluid is back in his lung. He had 3 litres drained last Tuesday but they're sending him back tomorrow. It was the fluid that they tested that told them he had cancer in his kidney and now in his lung. That double whammy keeps hitting get me again.

So tomorrow will bring no news, but maybe a little relief. Although last time he was sore for a couple of days after the draining,

Rest up, Midge. Have a good Christmas x

  • Will try Balibee. Having some wine now. Your poor chap . Hope they sort him out tomorrow and remove the fluid and then a plan is agreed by his consultants to start treatment.
  • Wine. Yes.

Luckily I have contractors who love me, so wine is in abundant supply. I may take advantage while I can. May we all be granted at least a little of our Christmas wishes xx

  • Hi I've read all your posts,it's a worrying time I understand,I was diagnosed in may this year with stage 4 lymphoma, after many tests, scans and a biopsy I waited 7 weeks in total for all results that was the worst not knowing ,fretting, feeling sick ,worrying, googling,(don't Google it's unhelpful) we've all been through the wait for results and  it's hell.

I got diagnosed and started chemo that same week I've done all 6 cycles and I'm in remission now and on further maintenance treatment for the next 2 years ,I feel well I'm 42 and I've got a hell of alot to live and fight for although there is no cure for the type I've got at this stage I will fight this evil cancer all the way as I have a young daughter who needs me,there is hope.

Sorry for the long reply just explaining so youl know that you are not alone, you will find alot of help in here from people who have been in your shoes and it helps to talk, rant, ask advice whatever you feel like doing we are all here to support you and each other!

I wish you well, try to relax a little and enjoy Christmas.

    With best wishes

    Gill

  • Firstly Gill, great attitude and good on you to fight so strongly. Had a call from the consultant post my chest CT follow up. The area of concern had reduced to just a " wisp" it was therefore an infection and not mets . So relieved. As that's just over 2 years now things are looking good as 90% of reoccorance happen in the first two years for high risk patients like me. Wishing all great results from their treatments
  • Hi Gill

Please don't apologise, thank you. It's so good to hear that there is more out there than this place that we're in just now. Thank you.

  • Midge2 that's wonderful. That's a wonderful Christmas phone call to get. Thank you so much for sharing .

  • My husband went today for another drain and was seen by the same docs who had attempted the endoscopy. The good news is they got more results through from the previously drained fluid and now don't need to do the endoscopy as they have the confirmation it would have given.  It's definitely kidney with secondary lung- they had been concerned it was two separate cancers. Now it'll be a consultation at the local cancer hospital in the new year. He has come back far more positive.
