Hello

I have been diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in my bile duct 7 weeks ago.  I underwent an ERCP procedure 5 weeks ago and stayed in hospital for just over 3 weeks after contracting pancreatitis, an infection in my bile duct and my bowel shutting down.  I was actually not expected to make it furing the first week and myself and my family were told there would be non resusitation should anything else happen.  My cancer cannot be removed due to it growing too close to a major blood vessel.  They are going to try to manage it with targeted radiotherapy.  I have my first meeting tomorrow with an oncologist to get all the details.  I am so scared...can anyone ease my fears?  Thank you

  • Hi Caz

Sorry to hear your story.  Fear is the one thing that happens to all of us and you have to find your way of dealing with it. Keeping yourself busy helps I know its not easy.  Talking helps share with your friends and family and if you need a good cry then do it, dont bottle things up.

As to your appointment write down any questions you can think of as they pop into your head, remember no question is stupid.  I hope someone is going with you as two people hearing the same thing can sometimes differ and they could make any notes that you might want to.

Once you start the treatment the regularity and the fact that someone else is in charge gives a sort of calming effect (or did in my case and many others) its like you are on a treadmill.

    Best wishes

    Thanks for your reply.

I haver one of my daughters coming with me for support and to make sure I don't miss anything.  It's the fear of the unknown and I know I just have to get on with it.
