  • Hi Joanner

So sorry to hear about your boyfriend and his kidney cancer. My husband had his right kidney removed in July 2015. They knew there was something there from the ultra sound and cystoscope in the previous Feb but it took until 5 months later before they did the operation. By then it was stage 3 and an aggressive cancer but he was declared free of cancer for just over the year. In August of this year the CT  scan revealed it had recurred in the tissue behind his missing kidney and had also metastised in his stomach. He is on immuno - therapy drug pazopanib which he takes once a day. It is still classed as a chemo drug, even though it isn't, as it still gives all the side effects. Saw the oncologist on Thursday and he just said keep taking the pills and he will have a CT in Jan to see if they have done any good.

I haven't heard of the Danube trial, it must be a new drug for kidney cancer as they usually say in everything I've read that immuno therapy is best for kidney cancer. Ask what is is. My advice to write down any questions you want answering and make sure you get answers. Do you have a help line for your clinic? Ring them if so.

As for yourself you will feel angry, frustrated and useless because you can't do anything. Make sure you have someone to talk to or have a coffee with. Even writing on this forum helps. Thinking of you both and best wishes.
