Lung cancer diagnosis

Hello,

i am having a bit of a rough time. My gran who is like a mother to me has just been diagnosed with lung cancer. We aren't aware of stages as it is a diagnosis from the respiratory care team. She is now waiting to see the oncologist.

She has been told that there isn't really anything that they can do by the consultant today and the tumour is inoperable. She is in agony, they also said chemo may be an option but it may not cure anything. It has spread to chest bones and her lympnodes and glands.

its so hard what to expect as this doesn't sound good? Any ideas of what would be next?

  • Hi sarahjane0804 and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm really sorry to hear your gran has just been diagnosed with lung cancer and that she was told that the tumour was inoperable as it had spread to her chest bones, lymph nodes and glands. I can't answer that question I'm afraid but you can chat to our cancer nurses about your gran's situation and see what they say if you like. They are available until 5p.m today and you can call them on 0808 800 4040 which is free to call from a UK landline. I have also found a section on our website about lung cancer here if you want to find out a bit more about it.

Do let us know how your gran gets on after seeing the oncologist.

Wishing you both all the best,

  • Dear SarahJane,

Our Pastor was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and was also told his cancer was inoperable.

Pastor Mitchell did a lot of research and decided to go to Mexico for a new procedure where the tumor is oblated and immunotherapy was injected into tumor.  I only can tell you he is doing very well and thru prayer and this new treatment I feel we all have a new found hope.  Being told the cancer is inoperable is very scary and in some cases just not true.
