Salvia gland tumour

I'm hoping that someone has some experience with salvia gland tumours? About six months ago I was referred by my dr to hospital due to a lump under my left jawline. Biopsy showed up a mixed cell benign tumour of the submanular salvia gland. I'm on the waiting list for surgery but the last few months I've been experiencing a pins and needle/nerve pain from the tumour site that comes and goes. Sometimes I don't get it for weeks but I would say at the moment it's getting worse. I don't think the tumour has grown and I don't have any other signs I was warned about such as sweats fever ect. Waiting for a call back from the hospital about it and basically done the wrong thing and googled it, which has all but convinced me it's turned cancerous as I can't find much on benign tumours with this type of pain. Can noncancerous salvia gland tumours produce this kind of pain?

  • Hello northlondonmum,

Welcome to the forum. I hope by now that you've had a call back from the hospital and they've been able to give you some advice/answers. The internet can be a great tool - it can also be somewhere that can provide us with lots of scary information and misinformation.

If you would like to speak to one of our team of nurses then please do give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 (free to call from a UK landline).

We have a few members here who have had surgery for cancerous salivary tumours and you can read more about some of their stories here.

Please do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • HI northlondonmum

Any tumour will give you pain and the pins and needles sensation you are experiencing is the tumour pressing on nerves in your jaw. If the hospital diagnosis has determined it is benign then you can assume it is. good luck with your coming surgery and hopefully that will be you on the road to full recovery. Kim
